Job description

Are you enthusiastic about working with impactful survey data? Do you have excellent data analysis skills? Do you want to gain a unique experience in working for an international research infrastructure? We are looking for a junior researcher to join our team.

What are we looking for?
The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) currently has a vacancy for a Junior Researcher
We are looking for a new team member who can assist with fieldwork tasks and the daily operations of the Central Hub. This will include:
  • coding and testing the survey questionnaire
  • assisting national teams with data collection
  • helping monitor the fieldwork and assessing data quality
  • supporting the work of the Central Hub as needed

Requirements

What are we expecting?
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile candidate, who can support the work of the Central Hub and can adapt quickly to changing priorities. We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Recently completed a Research Master in social sciences, or another relevant discipline;
  • Good knowledge of Stata; familiarity with R or Python is a plus
  • Experience in working with large-scale (longitudinal) survey data (e.g. GGS, SHARE);
  • Strong technical affinity and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software tools and technologies
  • Keen eye for detail combined with reliable organizational skill
  • Highly adaptable and able to manage changing priorities with ease
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges
  • Strong communication skills in the English language (written and oral)

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

Terms of employment

To work for the KNAW, it is a requirement that you reside in the Netherlands as of the date of employment.

Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is 3,377 and the maximum salary is 4,640 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 9 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

The KNAW offers its staff an excellent package of secondary benefits. A package that meets the different needs of employees depending on their stage of life, lifestyle or career ambitions. For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).

The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) is a leading European demographic research institute. NIDI is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and affiliated with the University of Groningen. It is located in the center of The Hague providing a unique and stimulating research environment in the broad field of population studies. Generations and Gender Programme (GGP)

What is the GGP?
The Generations and Gender Programme is a cross-national research infrastructure for high-quality, open-access data about population and family dynamics. The main component is the Generation & Gender Survey (GGS) - a unique longitudinal data source on families and people's life courses across different countries. Currently, new data is being collected in several European, Asian, and South-American countries.

The GGP Central Hub is part of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) and located in the center of The Hague. It is responsible for the day-to-day management of the GGP, which includes providing support to national teams in collecting GGS data, and processing the collected data for release to the scientific community.
