Senior Survey Researcher - NIDI - KNAW - The Hague

What are we looking for?
The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) currently has a vacancy for a Senior Survey Researcher.
We are looking for a new team member who who not only possesses the expertise to effectively assist with survey fieldwork tasks but is also capable of driving the upgrade of our survey fieldwork operations. The role will encompass a range of responsibilities at the Central Hub, including:

• Assisting national teams with survey fieldwork preperations and providing them with survey methodology advice;
• Helping monitor the survey fieldwork and assessing data quality;
• Innovating and refining our survey fieldwork operations, particularly within the Blaise platform;
• Coding and testing the survey instrument;
• Supporting the work of the Central Hub as needed.

The candidate is expected to start on the 1st of March 2024 or as soon as possible after. Junior candidates with significant survey research experience or significant technical skills may be also considered if no suitable senior candidate is found. The appointment will be for a period of 12 months. Any extension will be contingent on performance, availability of funds, and the human resource needs of the infrastructure. Dutch law stipulates a maximum of 4 years in total for a temporary research-based contract.

What we expect from you
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile candidate who can adapt quickly to changing priorities. We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

• Ph.D. in social sciences, or another relevant discipline (or Master degree with additional relevant years of experience) and expertise in survey methodology;
• Good knowledge of Stata and familiarity with R or Python;
• Experience in working with large-scale (longitudinal) survey data (e.g. GGS, SHARE);
• Strong technical affinity and the ability to quickly learn and improve our Blaise-based fieldwork system;
• Highly adaptable and able to manage changing priorities with ease;
• Prior fieldwork experience is an asset;
• Familiarity with emerging technologies and trends in fieldwork operations is a plus;
• To work for the KNAW, it is a requirement that you reside in the Netherlands as of the date of employment;
• Strong communication skills in the English language (written and oral).

Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is 3,226 and the maximum salary is 5,929 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 10 or 11 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). If experience or education requires so, we are able to offer employment within salary scale 11 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW).

his is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

About NIDI
The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) is a leading European demographic research institute. NIDI is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and affiliated with the University of Groningen. It is located in the center of The Hague providing a unique and stimulating research environment in the broad field of population studies. Currently the staff of the institute consists of about 65 employees of different levels of seniority and organized in a rather horizontal structure within four thematic research groups. The working environment is highly international and NIDI provides ample opportunities for training and development.

What is the GGP?
The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) is a cross-national research infrastructure for high-quality, open-access data about population and family dynamics. The main component is the Generation & Gender Survey (GGS) - a unique longitudinal data source on families and people's life courses across different countries. Currently, new data is being collected in several European, Asian, and South-American countries.
The GGP Central Hub is part of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) and located in the center of The Hague. It is responsible for the day-to-day management of the GGP, which includes providing support to national teams in collecting GGS data, and processing the collected data for release to the scientific community.
