Job description

Are you interested in data science, health care and language? At Radboud University's Faculty of Arts we have a position for an IT developer focusing on the curation, annotation and reuse of text and video data from the health sector. The candidate will join the Healthy Data programme.

As an IT developer, you will be involved in curating and augmenting an inventory of relevant datasets and accompanying metadata on campus. Your main task will be to use language and speech technology such as Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to transcribe and linguistically enhance audiovisual recordings and texts deemed relevant for Healthy Data. You will build tooling and workflows to make language data AI ready. You will work with data stewards and health researchers on the curation and submission of their datasets to the Radboud Data Repository. Further you will work on proposals for defining requirements for data sharing in Healthy Data that other platforms must meet.

You will contribute to Healthy Data's work package for unlocking data and participate in scrum teams around specific use cases. You will also be involved in the Faculty of Art's RDM support team, which supports and trains researchers in curating and enhancing their dataset in a FAIR context.

Requirements

  • You have proven expertise in a discipline within data science or language and speech technology (ASR & NLP), preferably health-related and linked to linguistics.
  • You have experience with the FAIRification of data (preferably health-related), harmonisation of metadata schemes, GDPR aspects of research on sensitive data, knowledge of the potential and risks of advanced methods of AI-based data processing and application development, preferably related to language and speech technology, as evidenced by research projects, publications and/or teaching experience. You have a clear vision on ethical and privacy aspects in this particular context.
  • You hold a Master's degree in data science or language and speech technology (completed before the starting date of this position) or in another relevant discipline such as computer science, provided the research centres on an area of data science.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to interact and establish links with other communication science and/or data science subdisciplines.
  • You are proficient in English and preferably also in Dutch. If Dutch is not your native language, you will be expected to become proficient in Dutch at the C1 level within two years.
  • Ideally, you have experience or affinity with working in a scrum or agile  team, so that you will be able to co-create sustainable solutions that strengthen our data-driven infrastructure and/or AI applications for health and healthcare.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar met uitzicht op een vast dienstverband.

  • It concerns an employment for 0.8 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,226 and a maximum of €5,090 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 10).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a temporary employment for 1 year, with the prospect of a permanent contract after positive evaluation.
  • You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services. Our Dual Career and Family Care Officer can assist you with family-related support, help your partner or spouse prepare for the local labour market, provide customized support in their search for employment and help your family settle in Nijmegen.
  • Working for us means getting extra days off. In case of full-time employment, you can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the legally allotted 20.
Work and science require good employment practices. This is reflected in Radboud University's primary and secondary employment conditions. You can make arrangements for the best possible work-life balance with flexible working hours, various leave arrangements and working from home. You are also able to compose part of your employment conditions yourself, for example, exchange income for extra leave days and receive a reimbursement for your sports subscription. And of course, we offer a good pension plan. You are given plenty of room and responsibility to develop your talents and realise your ambitions. Therefore, we provide various training and development schemes.
