We are looking for a pragmatic legal expert who knows how to get work done and wants to contribute to WUR's complex legal issues together with us.

You are an enthusiastic, accurate and independent legal counsel with at least two years’ experience in the field of private law. In this position, you will be legal counsel regarding research contracts, intellectual property, corporate law questions and contribute to data management compliance.

What are you going to do as legal counsel?
  • You will advise some WUR units on research and collaboration agreements. This will involve questions on copyright, other intellectual property rights and on know-how and data. How can we as an organisation best make an impact with our models, software and data? Or how is copyrighted work of students protected? How do we deal with visual material or infringement claims?
  • You will advise on corporate law questions, for example on setting up a foundation or assessing a shareholders' agreement;
  • You identify new legislation and important case law in the field of data and AI and translate this to application at WUR. You contribute to the development and implementation of compliance policy in the field of data and AI;
  • There are also various other tasks, such as litigation and requests in connection with the Open Government Act (Woo), which we divide within the team based on interest, personal development or temporary assistance.

You will work here
The CG&LS department consists of 20 staff members, including a team of eight legal counsel. The legal policy for the entire organisation is shaped here, in coordination with the legal counsels in the sciences groups. The department's field of work is broad, with focus areas such as: governance, compliance, value creation, internationalisation, scientific integrity, employee participation, education, privacy and disputes. Private law questions are handled by four of the team’s legal counsels.

The CG&LS team is your home base. Here you discuss on content with the other legal counsels and tasks are divided. You mainly work together with staff from other departments within Wageningen University & Research. This takes place in multidisciplinary teams. For you, this means cooperation with colleagues from, among others, the corporate department Value Creation and the WUR Library, as well as legal counsels and project leaders in the sciences groups of WUR.

Requirements

  • You have completed a university degree in Dutch law;
  • You have at least 2 years’ experience in private law and are interested in improving yourself in the areas of data management, intellectual property and corporate law. You enjoy exploring new areas of work;
  • You have a proactive and service-oriented working attitude and a good sense of administrative relations. You can work well together, present and bring people along with your advice;
  • You have good analytical skills and are able to formulate useful and clear advice. You like dynamics and can keep an overview;
  • You have a good command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 3,830.- and € 5,949.- based on a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with Wageningen Research Collective Labour Agreement (salary scale 11). Additionally, a contract of 0.8 FTE can be discussed. You will initially receive a one-year contract, with the intention of converting this to an open-ended contract if you prove to be suitable for the position and if business conditions remain unchanged.
