Job description

UCM is a successful Liberal Arts and Science College in the Netherlands that strongly encourages student centered, interdisciplinary education with an emphasis on academic community and the teaching of excellent analytical research skills. Furthermore, the College strives to promote constant innovation in teaching methods.

The PhD position that UCM is offering is for a candidate who is willing to not only carry out excellent research but to also share their research process with the students. The successful candidate will have a detailed plan indicating how they intend to use/integrate their research project into the UCM curriculum as an inspirational and educational tool to further UCM students’ own research skills and plans. Possible examples might be a range of MaRBLe (undergraduate research) projects, lectures and workshops on the research process as well as the content.

The exact topic of the PhD will need to be decided on with the supervisors but it should have a clearly interdisciplinary approach and appeal to UCM students.

UCM will offer a fully funded, fixed period PhD training programme for one candidate. The programme will last six years starting Sept 2019-2020.

The successful candidate will spend 60% of their time on research and 40% on teaching and academic interviews. As part of their research, successful candidates are expected to offer several MaRBLe projects and supervise capstones.
