Date & time

The interviews will be scheduled on April Friday 23th and Saturday 24th between 15:00 PM and 19:00 PM Dutch time (CEST).

Meeting slots

If you are selected by a professor, he or she will propose you a 20-minute interview date and time for a video interview. The agenda from the professors will be leading to propose you a timeslot. Since there are limited timeslots and many candidates, rescheduling is not an option.

Do you want to do your PhD in the Netherlands? Then this opportunity - exclusively for postgraduates from Latin American countries and Dutch institutions, professors and recruiters - is your chance. Register now, create a profile, upload your CV and get a chance to be invited for a one-on-one video interview by a Dutch professor to discuss your (draft) research proposal or research ideas. For free!

This all takes place online and you can join the event from home, how convenient! The sooner you complete your registration, the sooner professors are able to study your CV.

This is your opportunity to talk with your possible future Dutch PhD supervisor about your research ideas. Take your chance to have a 20 minutes' one-on-one interview!

This event is organized and supported by The Embassy of the kingdom of The Netherlands in Colombia, Nuffic Neso Mexico, Nuffic Neso Brazil and AcademicTransfer.

This is how attractive we have made it for you as a master's student who wants to come to the Netherlands to do a PhD:

  • Did you know that in the Netherlands you almost never pay tuition fees to do a four-year full-time PhD trajectory? (There are just a few faculties with exemptions to this rule).
  • And did you know that all universities in the Netherlands are ranked in the top of the global worldwide rankings (position 201 and better)?
  • And perhaps even most practical: the Netherlands is centrally located in Europe, distances are short; you travel through The Netherlands by railway like you do Sao Paulo by public transport.
  • Best kept secret: you don't have to learn the Dutch language! Almost all Dutch people speak English, and you can do your dissertation and research in English.
  • And 20 more things that make The Netherlands unique!

Requirements

  • A master's degree (or soon obtaining).
In the Netherlands a master’s degree is obligatory to start a PhD. You can only participate in this event if you have a master’s degree or if you soon obtain a master’s degree. If you have a bachelor’s degree you can not participate and can not apply for an interview.

  • A good level of English, a TOEFL/IELTS certificate (or soon obtaining)
To communicate with your Dutch and international colleagues you need to have a good level of English.  Most Dutch universities require a TOEFL score of 80 and higher or IELTS of 6.5 and higher. You do not need to speak or write Dutch, all your research can be done in English and Dutch society’s second language is English too.

  • Own funding or willing to apply for a scholarship

This event is only for Latin American master’s students who can bring their own funding or willing to apply for it at their national scholarship providers. The Dutch university that selected you, can help you fill in the right documents.

  • The funding must cover 4 full years for your cost of living (about €1300/month). The universities will wave tuition fees in return (i.e. you do not have to pay the universities for doing your PhD).

  • Examples for obtaining such funding are:

  • An up-to-date English CV and a short personal research statement
Please make sure your CV and research statement are in English. Documents in any other language will be neglected.

The delegates are still registering; if you don't see the university or faculty you are looking for yet, please come back in a few days. You can start the registration process already.

Attending delegates

If you meet all requirements and want to get the chance to have a one-on-one interview with a Dutch professor or university recruiter, you can register until April 22th, 2021. Please be aware: do not wait until the deadline. The sooner you register, the greater the chance a professor is able to study your application and to confirm an appointment! To apply you need to create an account on AcademicTransfer, upload your CV and complete your profile information.

After you register, Dutch professors will review your CV’s, proposal and profile. The professors decide who they invite for a personal video interview. If you are one of the lucky candidates who receive an interview invitation, you will get an email with a proposal from the professor.

Although this is open until April 22th 2021, first come, first served so to say. Make sure you apply as soon as possible to have a greater chance. When professors have found the right candidates or ran out of timeslots, the closing date could be adjusted to an earlier deadline. Each professor has a limited number of timeslots for interviews available.

Start today, and complete the easy steps the coming days:

  1. Create an account on AcademicTransfer by signing up, or sign in if you already have an account
  2. Start your event participation by clicking the orange button on the top of this page
  3. Complete all the required fields in your account and upload your CV (in English!) It helps when you add a short research statement or even a real proposal (some delegates require this). Please note NOT all fields in your account are obligatory. "ORCID ID" for example does not have to filled in when you have none, and "scholarship" can be filled in as "i want to apply for".
  4. Hit the "complete registration" button.
  5. You are all set and ready! The delegates will start reading your account and CV.  When you are selected by a delegate he or she will send you an invitation with a time and date, to discuss your PhD research in a one-on-one interview. During this day, you are also invited to our virtual fair for additional questions about coming to the Netherlands and doing a PhD in The Netherlands.
  6. Optional: click the heart-shaped icons at the top of the delegate's pictures, when you want to draw their attention ;-) It's like showing you are really keen to meet this person!
