Job description

Tasks
As a talented tenure track (TT) researcher or senior researcher, you advance the current research line by innovating the theory, methodology and themes of study and collaborating with the team about future directions for the research group. You take a leading role in the research group and at the institute and inspire and supervise PhD candidates and postdocs.
You do empirical research with rigorous research designs in close collaboration with other researchers and societal partners. You take a leading role in delivering high-quality scholarly publications. You initiate grant applications and maintain collaborations within the institute and beyond. Further, the position involves actively engaging in societal outreach activities and communicating with media and stakeholders.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Obtained a doctoral degree and has a strong international publication record in criminology, sociology, or other related social sciences.
  • Experience in video analysis and behavioral coding.
  • Inspire others with engagement and enthusiasm for rigorous research.
  • Strong statistical skillset and advanced user of Stata, R, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with qualitatively trained researchers.
  • Experiences with mixed-method approaches.
  • Great command of English, both spoken and written. Dutch fluency or willingness to learn Dutch is an advantage, given our close collaboration with societal partners.
  • Experience in supervising young scholars and their research.
  • Strong communicative skills, both scholarly and with respect to societal outreach.
  • Affinity and experience with open science research principles.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 3 years.

We offer:

  • Starting in a TT position the initial appointment is for a period of three years for 32 hours per week. Based on performance indicators agreed at the start of the appointment, after a positive evaluation, you will be awarded a permanent, tenured employment in the position of senior researcher. 
  • The salary for the TT position is depending on experience, which is at least € 3,984 up to a maximum of € 6,230 per month based on a full-time appointment (scale 11/12 of the collective labour agreement Research Institutions).
  • Starting as senior researcher a prospect of a permanent contract for 32 hours after one year of successful functioning.
  • The salary as senior researcher is depending on experience, which is at least € 5,546 up to a maximum of € 7,418 per month based on a full-time appointment (scale 13/14 of the collective labour agreement Research Institutions).
