PhD position in CSAI (1.0 fte) Predicting and Influencing Prevention Behavior
You cannot apply for this job anymore (deadline was 15 May ’20)
The position is part of an externally funded initiative that covers five projects as part of MindLabs, (https://www.mind-labs.nl / a multi-party research and development initiative involving cognitive science and artificial intelligence. MindLabs is a collaboration between Tilburg University, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Intermediate Vocational Education (ROC) Tilburg, and industry. In the MindLabs initiative, human and artificial minds meet in virtual and mixed reality, serious games and learning, robotics and avatars, and language and data technologies. There are five PhD positions available as part of this MindLabs initiative. These include 1) predicting behavior using data science; 2) measuring neurophysiology in VR simulations, 3) developing virtual reality agents for education, 4) investigating decision making using serious games, 5) measuring learning and performance in simulations. The five PhD-projects cover areas ranging from maintenance, logistics, aerospace prevention to education.

Project information
This position is a collaboration between Tilburg University, a large insurance company, and the municipality of Tilburg. It aims to investigate prevention behavior in groups of people based on large and diverse datasets. In particular, the project will consider two questions:
1. By applying principles of exploratory data analysis and predictive modelling to datasets collected by a large insurance company, is it possible to identify clusters of individuals that exhibit similar and predictable responses to diverse kinds of everyday risk?
2. Using principles of risk communication and the study of risk literacy, how effectively can prevention behavior be influenced by targeting each cluster, and tailoring the information they receive to their characteristic perception of various kinds of risk?
This PhD position will be jointly supervised by dr. Henry Brighton and dr. Emmanuel Keuleers in the Department of Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence at Tilburg University.
