Our PhD students are looking for a PhD coordinator who is their first point of contact, who welcomes them when they arrive and supports them throughout their trajectory. Job description

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Contribute to and implement the faculty policy for PhD students.
  • Answer questions from PhD students and supervisors about the PhD process.
  • Monitor individual PhD trajectories.
  • Advise on the quality of the supervision and implement ideas for improving it.
  • Organize workshops and activities for PhD students (together with the ESHCC PhD club).
  • Participate in PhD meetings on EUR and graduate school level. 
  • Keep track of the PhD files in and work with the administrative PhD system Hora Finita.

Requirements

To be eligible, a candidate must have:

  • Preferably a PhD degree in the Social Sciences or Humanities.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to co-operate with others and perform well within an international and diverse team.
  • Excellent digital skills including knowledge and experience of working with digital systems.
  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English (non-English speakers have to meet the C1-standards of the Common European Framework (CEFR). International applications are expected to acquire the Dutch language within two years).

Conditions of employment

Employment starts preferably on 1 December 2022. We offer a one-year contract. The intention is to make the position permanent.

The conditions of employment correspond with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities (CAO NU). The salary depends on knowledge and experience and for a full-time appointment is between a minimum of € 2.960,- and a maximum of € 4.670,- gross per month (scale 10 CAO NU). A starting scale may apply. Working days and times are in consultation.

In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme. The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication

The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. The school has three departments: History,  Arts and Culture and Media & Communication. There are approximately 2500 students, over 220 employees and 85 PhD candidates.

ESHCC offers high quality education, based on scientific research, at the intersection of the Humanities and Social Sciences. We teach our ambitious, Dutch and international students in a stimulating learning environment. After graduation, they will have acquired the knowledge, insight and skills to make an important and inspiring contribution to an increasingly international society in which diversity plays a major role.

The ESHCC also has an ambitious research agenda.
