Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure (0,8-1,0 fte)

Primary tasks

• to conduct high-level research in the field of criminal law and/or criminal procedure and sustain a strong publication record within the Research Programme 'Criminal Justice';
• to seek and contribute to seeking (external) research funding;
• to develop, deliver and coordinate courses in the regular Bachelor's programmes, the LL.M. programme 'Criminal law and Criminal Procedure' and/or the Msc. programme 'Comparative Criminal Justice';
• to supervise bachelor's theses and master's theses as well as essays and papers in the Master's programmes;
• to develop and deliver courses/lectures in the curriculum of postgraduate education for legal professionals;
• to cooperate in a collegial way in (managerial) activities of the Department, the Institute and/or Leiden Law School.

As part of the Institute of Criminal Law & Criminology, the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure fosters high-level research, education and training in criminal law and criminal procedure. The Department is responsible for teaching in the Bachelor's programmes of Law and Criminology (both in Dutch) and also in the Master's programmes of 'Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure' (in Dutch), and 'Comparative Criminal Justice' (in English). Research in the Department is mainly carried out within the Research programme 'Criminal Justice: Legitimacy, Accountability and Effectivity' (www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/research/research-projects/law/criminal-justice-legitimacy-accountability-and-effectivity#tab-1).

Terms and conditions

• candidates will be appointed in accordance of the Collective Agreement of Dutch Universities, initially for a period of one year, with the expectation of being offered a permanent position after positive evaluation;
• the salary will be dependent on previous qualifications and experience, and ranges between € 3974.- to € 6181.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay-scale 11 or 12);

Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification. If the successful applicant does not already possess this qualification or its equivalent, he/ she must be willing to obtain this Qualification within two years.
