Electron Microscopy Specialist

As an Electron Microscopy Specialist you will ensure the operation and regular maintenance of all electron microscopes and cryo-sample preparation systems at the facility. You will use your expertise and knowledge to resolve TEM/cryo-TEM problems. You will be expected to deal with the facility users' requirements creatively, patiently and inventively. You will train, assist and supervise researchers with different levels of experience (from Bachelor's degree students to highly experienced scientists) and you will give them instructions where necessary and appropriate. You will perform both classical sample preparation (negative staining, chemical fixation, resin embedding and ultramicrotomy) and cryo-preparation (plunge freezing, HPF/FS) and you will guide users in this field.

You will assist with their image acquisition settings, and you will instruct them how to manage and analyse their acquired data using the available files servers and software. Furthermore, you will work together with the light microscopy specialist in image analysis and perform back-up tasks involving light microscopy equipment.

• It concerns an employment for 0.8 FTE.
• The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,098 and a maximum of €4,257 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 9).
• You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• It concerns a temporary employment for 1 year, with the possibility of a permanent employment.

The Department of General Instrumentation (GI) is a shared facility of the Faculty of Science at Radboud University. It plays an important role in our international, scientific and dynamic community, and offers services to a large number of scientists and students from all over the world. Our department hosts facilities with a number of medium-large to large instruments such as light and electron microscopes and devices for element analysis and separation techniques. The team currently consists of four highly qualified members in charge of all advanced equipment
