Job description

Do you hold a PhD in cognitive neuroscience or cognitive neuropsychology? And do you want to delve into how impairments in neurobiological and psychological functioning underpin antisocial and maladaptive behaviors? As an Assistant Professor in the field of forensic cognitive neuropsychiatry you will combine approaches from experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience and statistical modeling in your research, and inspire students with your teaching.

The Department of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology (School of Psychology and Donders Centre for Cognition) has a position for an Assistant Professor in the field of forensic cognitive neuropsychiatry. This position encompasses both teaching (50%) and research (50%) activities.

You will be teaching in the areas of cognitive neuropsychiatry, cognitive neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience, and will supervise Bachelor's and Master's thesis projects on topics relevant to forensic psychiatry (e.g. aggression). Your teaching will be part of the Bachelor's programme in psychology, the clinically-oriented Master's programme and the Research Master's programme in Cognitive Neuroscience (CNS) (the Bachelor's and CNS programme are English-language programmes, the clinical Master's programme is taught in Dutch). Your scientific research will be embedded in Dr Inti Brazil's SAMBA research group at the Donders Centre for Cognition, which is part of the Donders Institute. The research programme of this group mainly focuses on combining approaches from experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience (e.g. neuroimaging) and statistical modelling methods in order to study how impairments in neurobiological and psychological functioning underpin antisocial and maladaptive behaviours. The research is conducted in individuals from the general community, psychiatric patient populations, incarcerated offenders, and forensic psychiatric populations. The research conducted by the SAMBA group is primarily embedded in Theme 2 (Perception, Action and Decision-making), but there are also extensive collaborations with researchers from Theme 3 (Development and Lifelong Plasticity). You will be expected to actively apply for grant-based and contract funding that will align with the research agenda of the Donders Institute in general and that of the Department of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology in particular. Requirements

  • You should have a doctoral degree (PhD) in cognitive neuroscience or cognitive neuropsychology (or a related discipline).
  • You have experience with conceiving and conducting multidisciplinary research on topics related to disturbances in behavioural adaptation, cognitive neuropsychiatry, forensic psychiatry and cognitive neuropsychology.
  • You have experience with analyses of neuroimaging data (EEG, MRI) and latent variable modelling (e.g. computational modelling, Structural Equation Modelling).
  • You have a demonstrable and consistent track record in publishing high-quality multidisciplinary research in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • You are successful at obtaining funding.
  • You are an enthusiastic teacher, with demonstrable experience with teaching and supervising undergraduate students and/or PhD candidates (preferably also in coordinating courses).
  • You have an affinity with teaching on topics related to psychopathology across psychiatric patient populations.
  • You have excellent organisational, social and collaborative skills.
  • A university teaching qualification (BKO) is recommended.
  • Fluency in Dutch is a hard requirement for teaching in the Dutch clinical Master's programme.
  • You have an excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 level).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year with the possibility of a permanent employment.

  • It concerns an employment for 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,974 and a maximum of €5,439 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a temporary employment for 1 year with the possibility of a permanent employment.

The research conducted by the Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology section is embedded in the Donders Centre for Cognition, one of the centres of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (which is part of Radboud University's Faculty of Social Sciences). Conducting neuroscientific research in clinical populations is a key topic at our university, with strong collaborations among groups across the Donders Institute, the Behavioural Science Institute, the Radboud university medical center (notably the departments of medical psychology, geriatrics, neurology and psychiatry), the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, the Vincent van Gogh Institute for Psychiatry, and the Klimmendaal Rehabilitation Centre. The Donders Centre for Cognition offers excellent research facilities, such as advanced EEG and eye movement registration, lab space, excellent access to fMRI and other neuroimaging facilities and an internal technical support group. The Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology section is part of the School of Psychology within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The School of Psychology offers excellent degree programmes for approximately 2,000 students. The Bachelor's programme has a yearly inflow of 600 new students. The Master's programme in Psychology has three specialisation tracks, including the clinical specialisation in Health Care Psychology (in Dutch). Finally, we offer two international Research Master's programmes, including the Research Master's programme in in Cognitive Neuroscience provided in collaboration with the Donders Institute for Cognition, Brain and Behaviour.
