Job description

How to supply fuels and carbon-based materials without fossil sources? Within the e-Refinery Institute at TU Delft, we’re working on accelerating the energy transition by developing technology for converting CO2/CO and water into sustainable fuels and feedstock, using renewable electricity. To this end we can convert CO2/CO to carbon-based products, such as carbon monoxide (which can be used as precursor for making fuels and chemicals, such as methanol or plastics) or multi-carbon compounds such as ethylene and ethanol. This process of electrochemical CO2 conversion has been proven in the lab, and is at the stage of upscaling towards practical application.

Successful candidates will closely work with other post-doctoral fellows and PhD students, as well as academic collaborators, to develop new scientific concepts and demonstrate engineering advances in the area of electrochemical CO2 or CO conversion. They are expected to publish first-authored papers that advance state-of-the-art fundamental and applied knowledge in the field. Further the candidate will cultivate their mentoring skills by devoting a portion of their time to the supervision of graduate students in the group and the development of new research directions.

Requirements

We’re looking for a candidate with:

  • A PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physics or similar
  • An excellent research record illustrating creative thinking and productivity
  • Pro-active and creative mind-set
  • Experience in doing experiments with electrochemical systems is considered a plus
  • Fluent in English
  • Starting date planned for fall 2023

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year (with a possible later extension to 2 years).

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount on health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.

For international applicants, TU Delft has the Coming to Delft Service. This service provides information for new international employees to help you prepare the relocation and to settle in the Netherlands. The Coming to Delft Service offers a Dual Career Programme for partners and they organise events to expand your (social) network.
