Job description

Wearables have provided us with unparalleled access to high dimensional health data, paving the way for personalized diagnosis, prevention and healthcare, allowing for tailored interventions and treatment plans. However, the sheer volume and velocity of this data pose substantial computational and analytical hurdles that demand cutting-edge solutions. Specifically, this line of research may adress signal processing dimensionality reduction techniques, advanced (joint) modeling, the combination of high dimensional data with low dimensional data (e.g., structured EHR fields), and the computational challenges of processing real-time high dimensional data for research purposes.

We are looking to appoint an ambitious and driven assistant professor on high dimensional data, including wearables. In Utrecht, high-dimensional data of different sources in the region Utrecht will be made available through U-Cloud. U-Cloud will play a central role in a Learning Health Care environment, in which, amongst others, high dimensional data from the people in our region will improve health caref for these patients. As an assistant professor, you will focus on techniques for processing this data and using it for real-world healthcare, diagnosis, and disease prevention application. Your research endeavors will not only contribute to overcoming technical obstacles but will also shape the future of healthcare applications, unlocking the full potential of high-dimensional data for improved patient outcomes and transformative medical insights.

Requirements

This position is at the level of assistant professor. It involves the areas of research, education and management and contains the following duties:
  • Perform and support research in the field of diagnosis, prevention and treatment using high dimensional data.
  • Contribute to the Data Science Plan at the Julius Center, participate in the AI methods lab at the UMC Utrecht and fuel a broader application of high dimensional data analysis using the U-Cloud infrastructure.
  • Develop course and teach on advanced data analyses at the UMC Utrecht (e.g. Data Science PhD track)
  • Supervise Bachelor, Master, and PhD students
  • Write research grant proposals and obtaining external funding
  • Contribute to management tasks

We are looking for a candidate that meets the following requirements:
  • A PhD degree in Statistics, AI, Data science or a related field with a proven affinity with the health domain, or a PhD degree in a medical discipline with a proven track record in the application of methods for high dimensional data
  • Experience in the field of high dimensional data analyses and health, demonstrated by publications in relevant journals and conferences, involvement in organization of events in the field, and presentations at medical conferences.
  • Academic teaching experience or ambition to supervise of MSc and PhD students
  • Experience with attracting research funding

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (32 - 36 hours) is € 6.156,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

Department

The Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care Medicine is part of the UMC Utrecht and conducts groundbreaking research within four research programs: Cardiovascular health, Cancer, Infectious Diseases, and Methodology. Approximately four hundred researchers with diverse backgrounds work at the Julius Center in four departments (Epidemiology & Health Economics, General Practice & Nursing science, Global Public Health and Bioethics, and Datascience & Biostatistics) and in one of the six strategic programs of the UMC Utrecht. The Julius Center is a stimulating working environment for ambitious researchers. Within projects there is a very close connection with various other divisions of the UMC Utrecht and beyond.
