Job description

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is an internationally oriented research university, specialized in engineering, science & technology. The TU/e is known for its high scientific impact and development of technological innovations. Our university is at the heart of society: the TU/e responds to complex societal challenges by focusing its education and research on three Strategic Areas: Energy, Health and Smart Mobility.

The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) is one of the most successful faculties in the Netherlands in the field of research in collaboration with industry. Currently, the faculty has approximately 1200 Bachelor and Master students and more than 300 PhD students.

The vacancy is part of the Electromagnetics (EM) research group in the EE department. The EM group specializes amongst others in (smart) antennas and front-ends research for 6G communications, and their characterization techniques. The EM group is embedded in the Center for Wireless Technology (CWTe) which facilitates multi-disciplinary research across the different research groups in the department.

Information
We are looking for a research lab manager for 0.6 to 1,0 fte.

The labs the successful candidate will be managing are part of the high-end lab facilities, known as the CWTe labs, of more than 700m2 with state-of-the-art equipment to measure integrated circuits and antennas for research purposes.

The responsibilities include:
  • Advising students and researchers on the construction and use of measurement setups;
  • Managing the labs, including maintenance and purchases of new state-of-the-art equipment;
  • Contributing to research on new measurement methods.

Requirements

As a research lab manager, you will be the go-to person in our groups to get help with high-end measurement equipment. You will support the development of new measurement facilities that we will use for, among other things, testing millimeter-wave components for 6G communication and car-radar applications, for the frequency range between 30-500 GHz. The components contain highly sophisticated integrated electronic circuits, requiring new measurement concepts. You will be part of world-leading research groups working with leading European companies in this field.

You hold at least an Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics bachelor’s in engineering or bachelor’s in science degree. Affinity with, and interest in, the development of supporting software for controlling instrumentation is a plus. Furthermore, you have a good command of the English (and ideally also Dutch) language orally and in writing.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

An exciting position within an international yet personal university. You are right in the middle of the students, on a green campus within walking distance of the central station. Besides beautiful architecture, you will find varied workplaces and excellent sports facilities. We also offer you:
  • We offer an interesting and challenging position with various opportunities for further development in your career. It is initially a fixed term contract for one year.
  • A monthly salary of minimum €3,057 to maximum €3,985 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (scale 7 collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities).
  • In addition to vacation pay, a structural end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
  • A favorable arrangement for more holidays or a sabbatical.
  • A selection model for additional fringe benefits.
  • Working hours in consultation for an optimal work-life balance.
  • Scope for your talent with advancement prospects and excellent development opportunities such as mentoring, workshops and coaching.
  • Partially paid parental leave and reimbursement for commuting expenses, working from home and the internet.
