As our software engineer (SE)/web developer, you join the Operational Software Engineering & Consulting (OSEC) team at
Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), one of Europe’s most innovative and well regarded business schools. Together with three other OSEC colleagues, you form part of the
Digitalisation & Information Services (RDIS) team, which consists of software engineers, consultants, application managers, and more.
Job descriptionAs a software engineer (SE)/web developer in OSEC, you're vital in developing and maintaining our diverse and innovative portfolio. All our custom applications are focussed on improving the way the RSM functions. You'll be working on software, such as:
- OLAF: online application form that every RSM student must fill in before they can be admitted to their bachelor or master study
- Selection online: system that guides students and prepares them for their exchange year abroad
- Elective registration: ensures all RSM students get an equal opportunity to follow their chosen electives
- HAPP: harmonised appraisal tool for grading and individualised feedback application within the learning management system (LMS) http://happ.rsm.nl/
- Thesis coach finder: application for master students to help them find their ideal thesis coach
Through robust software solutions, you closely collaborate with operational staff and lecturers to enhance the quality and efficiency of RSM. You are part of a tight-knit SCRUM team, which consists of you and your fellow SEs and developers, a product owner, and an application tester. We have a hybrid work environment; based on a full time contract, we work three days in the office and two days from home.
Your day starts with a stand-up meeting, where we discuss the ongoing sprint, any new information, and whichever hurdles need to be cleared. We do weekly refinements with the end-users, to ensure we have a strong feeling for their needs and that they understand the work we're doing for them to improve their work quality and experience. In the Scrum team, you give retrospectives, to reflect on the previous sprints, celebrate successes, and help each other to continuously improve.
The work is diverse; you think together with the supporting staff and lecturers and you are creative in your solutions. Additionally, you are critical of the requests that come your way, because the provided solution might not be the most robust one. Due to the longevity of the applications, we all take great care in providing quality over quantity.
In addition to technical skills, you possess the following:
- Analytical approach
- Communicative spirit
- Affinity with an educational work environment
- Willingness to continually learn and improve
- A critical and flexible mindset
