Junior Full-Stack Software Developer

Contribute to the technology behind world-leading brain research. The Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging (DCCN) is a global leader in research on brain function and cognition. As a junior full-stack software developer, you will play a vital role in designing and managing the application landscape that enables this groundbreaking research. Collaborate with top scientists and use your technical expertise to drive scientific progress.

As a junior full-stack software developer, you will be part of the DevOps team and support senior developers in the application development process. The DevOps team at DCCN follows the Scrum methodology.

During the development cycle, you will regularly collaborate with a senior developer in preparing new functionalities.

You will also be assigned your own development tasks for which you will be responsible for the full cycle, including tracking progress and sharing updates during daily stand-up meetings.

• You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
• You are proficient in both Dutch and English.
• You are enthusiastic about software development using open-source tools and solutions.
• You are eager to learn new technologies and programming languages.
• You want to contribute to solving societal challenges in an interdisciplinary context and are not afraid to be idealistic.
• You enjoy collaborating with others in a development team and with users of our products.
• You appreciate personal contact and enjoy working on campus, surrounded by colleagues.
• You are familiar with the Scrum methodology for software development.
• You have experience with Git, CI/CD and container technology.

The following experience would be considered a strong asset:

• Experience with Linux systems and Docker containers.
• Experience developing web applications using JavaScript, React, and ASP.NET.
• Experience with back-end development in Golang, Rust or ExpressJS.
• Experience in deploying software for users and providing support.

• We will give you a temporary employment contract of 1 year.
• Your salary within salary scale 9 depends on your previous education and number of years of (relevant) work experience. The amounts in the scale are based on a 38-hour working week.
• You will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% end-of-year bonus.

• You will receive extra days off. With full-time employment, you can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the statutory 20.

The mission of the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging (DCCN) is to conduct cutting-edge fundamental research in cognitive neuroscience. Much of the rapid progress in this field is being driven by the development of complex neuroimaging techniques for measuring activity in the human brain - an area in which the Centre plays a leading role. The research themes cover central cognitive functions, such as perception, action, control, emotion, decision-making, attention, memory, language, learning and plasticity. The Centre also aims to establish how the different brain areas coordinate their activity with very high temporal precision to enable human and animal cognition. Our internationally renowned centre currently hosts more than 100 PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers from more than 25 countries, offering a stimulating and multidisciplinary research environment. The centre is equipped with four MRI scanners (7T, 3x 3T), a 275-channel MEG system, an EEG-TMS laboratory, several (MR-compatible) EEG systems, and high-performance computational facilities.

The DevOps team at DCCN is responsible for maintaining and developing a unique stack of front- and back-end applications to manage neuroscience research projects that utilise DCCN’s research facilities.
