Assistant Professor Biostatistics

The Department of Biomedical Data Sciences is looking for a biostatistician to join its team. You will work in an inspiring academic and clinical environment at both LUMC and Haga Teaching Hospital. This position offers you the opportunity to develop novel methodological solutions for (bio)medical research problems, teach biostatistics and data science, and contribute to clinical and biomedical studies by providing methodological advice.

Job description

As a senior researcher or assistant professor in biostatistics, you will be active in research, consulting and teaching. You will develop new statistical methodology for medical research, publish your findings in leading journals, present your work at international conferences and apply for research grants. In consulting, you will advise clinical and biomedical researchers on study design and data analysis. You will teach PhD candidates and students at the medical faculty and students in the Leiden University master’s programme in Statistics and Data Science, using teaching material you have developed yourself.

Your core tasks are:

  • Develop novel statistical methodology for medical research.
  • Provide methodological advise to clinical and biomedical researchers.
  • Teach biostatistics and data science to PhD candidates and students.

Requirements

You hold a PhD in biostatistics, statistics or a similar field, and have a respectable record of publications. You have broad statistical knowledge and experience in giving statistical advice to medical researchers and in teaching applied statistics to medical students. You possess excellent communication skills and teaching qualities. Candidates with a specialization at the interface of statistics and machine learning are especially invited to apply.

You have:

  • At least 2-3 years of postdoctoral experience in methodological research.
  • A BKO teaching certification or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience with acquisition of research grants.
  • Proficiency in English. If you are not fluent in Dutch, you have a willingness to learn Dutch. 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: met uitzicht op vast.

You will be employed on the basis of 36 hours per week. Fixed-term, with the prospect of permanent employment. Your salary is based on your education and experience and is a maximum of € 7,424,- gross per month (between scale 11 and scale 12, Collective Labour Agreement UMC). These figures are based on a full-time position.

Department of Biomedical Data Sciences

You will work at the Department of Biomedical Data Sciences and be part of a team of biostatisticians responsible for setting high standards of methodological quality for research in LUMC and Haga Teaching Hospital. Your daily worksite is the Medical Statistics Section of LUMC, consisting of twelve faculty members and several PhD students and postdocs. One day per week you work at the Haga Teaching Hospital in The Hague, which is a large teaching hospital that performs specialized medical care and where scientific research plays an important role. We offer an open, active and international working environment in which research, consulting and teaching are closely connected.
