Research technician molecular cell biology and immunology

The research group led by Dr. Joke den Haan generates different types of cancer nanovaccines (nanobodies, liposomes) that are targeted to macrophages or dendritic cells. You will work in an international team of young and enthusiastic researchers, who have expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and immunology. This project is funded by a NWO Open technology grant. Our research group is part of both the Cancer Center Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Institute for Immunology and Infectious Diseases.

Vaccines can be used to activate the immune system to eliminate cancer. In the group of dr. Joke den Haan we are developing cancer vaccines that are effectively delivered to antigen-presenting cells by the incorporation of single-chain antibodies also known as nanobodies.

In this project, you will produce recombinant protein vaccines that consist of nanobodies and cancer antigens. You will produce nanobodies, purify them using IMAC affinity chromatography and size-exclusion chromatography, test the binding of these vaccines to antigen-presenting cells, and their capacity to activate T cells.

• A contract for 12 months, with the intention to extend.
• Salary scale 7M: € 3.064 to € 4.340 gross based on full-time employment (depending on education and experience) and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. Calculate your net salary here.

• For >7 km each way, 100% reimbursement for public transport travel costs and, for private transport, €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km each way.

The department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology (MCBI) at Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc, at the southwest edge of the city carries out research at an internationally competitive level and offers a stimulating and collegial work environment. The research of the department concentrates on immunological questions in the fields of cancer, neuroimmunology, skin immunology, and inflammation. The research focuses on both, fundamental questions aimed at unraveling molecular and cellular mechanisms and translational research focusing on the application of fundamental knowledge to medical questions.
