Job description

Within the Photonic Integration research group, we have a vacancy for a Communications Officer - EU Projects in Photonic Integration. In this position, you are responsible for the group’s communications related activities in EU-funded projects. You also collaborate with the JePPIX Communications Officer to create cross-project content.

Information
You will be part of the Photonic Integration (PhI) research group. Photonics is a rapidly growing field where the total market volume is comparable to the market of electronics and growing even faster. Whereas integrated circuits are already dominant technologies in the field of electronics, photonic integration is still taking off. It is a critical enabler for the modern internet and is poised to enable new forms of sensing and imaging. The PhI group performs leading edge research into Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) technology and its applications, and is involved in a number of national and international research projects.

The PhI group is one of the founders of JePPIX: the Joint European Platform for Photonic Integrated Components and Circuits. This platform brings together Europe’s key players in the fields of PIC manufacturing, design, software, equipment development and technology R&D. A key part of JePPIX’ mission is to make PIC technology accessible to a wide variety of inventors, innovators and developers. Next to that, JePPIX provides trainings in PIC technology and organizes events for the photonic integration community.

The group’s existing Communications Officer manages the JePPIX communication channels and the organization of trainings and events. However, recently PhI has become part of two new EU-funded projects: PixEurope and the EU Chips Design Platform (EuroCDP). We need a communications officer who is responsible for all communication & dissemination related activities in these projects, and potentially other EU-funded projects in the future.

In this job, you would be responsible for:
  • Representing TU/e in the Communication & Dissemination work packages of PixEurope and EuroCDP, which means attending work package meetings, ensuring TU/e owned tasks are carried out, creating project-related content, (co-)writing deliverables, supporting and visiting events, etc.
  • Keeping internal TU/e colleagues up to date on the communications activities in these projects, and collaborating with them where appropriate, e.g. on creating communications materials for events
  • Identifying opportunities for collaboration with the JePPIX Communications Officer for creating cross-project content

Requirements

  • Experience in communications, marketing or a related field, preferably in a high tech environment
  • Affinity with high tech and/or deep tech
  • The ability to explain technical ideas in an accessible and informative way, and to become familiar quickly with complex, technological concepts
  • An ability to work with highly interdisciplinary teams including researchers, business developers, engineers, and operational managers
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and independently solve problems if needed
  • Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English

Conditions of employment

An exciting position within an international yet personal university. You are right in the middle of the students, on a green campus within walking distance of the central station. Besides beautiful architecture, you will find varied workplaces and excellent sports facilities. We also offer you:
