Job description

Are you passionate about global health? Are you interested in the complexity of global health challenges and how to address them from a implementation science and health systems perspective? As successful candidate for this position as postdoctoral researcher in implementation science/global health you will contribute to national, European and global implementation science projects on cardiovascular health and multiple chronic non-communicable conditions in close collaboration with local and international colleagues and partner institutions.

As the ideal candidate for this position, you have a PhD in medicine, health sciences, epidemiology, public health, social or life-sciences. You have an excellent track record in non-communicable diseases in particular cardiovascular diseases, implementation sciences, complex evaluations and participatory research, as well as extensive experience working in or collaborating with institutions and partners in low- and middle-income countries. You thrive in an international, multidisciplinary environment and are an excellent collaborator. You can work well independently, communicate effectively, have excellent didactic, written and verbal English skills. Within this position we expect you to develop, conduct and contribute to implementation science research projects, publications and grant proposals as well as to departmental research and education activities in global health.

You are highly motivated, aim for a long-term career aspiration and would like to further develop your expertise in the field of implementation science in global health.

This 80-100% position will be a temporary appointment for 18 months in the first place, with opportunities for extension. The maximum salary for this position will be €5669 month on a fulltime basis depending on education and qualifications. Starting date is ideally from 1 February 2026.

Requirements

You are an enthusiastic global health researcher with experience in implementation science, complex interventions and participatory research. You have a background in health sciences, epidemiology, public health, global health or implementation sciences and extensive experience working in or collaborating with institutions and partners in low- and middle-income countries.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (32 - 40 hours) is € 3.598,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

The Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care is part of the University Medical Center Utrecht. You will be appointed at the Department of Global Public Health and Bioethics at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, UMC Utrecht, The Netherlands. The department conducts high-impact epidemiologic, global and public health research in the areas of cardiovascular, cancer, infectious diseases, maternal & child health, equity and justice, planetary health and exposome sciences to generate evidence that contributes to improved health and equity in health and to educate new generations of researchers and health care professionals worldwide.
