Software Engineer

As a software engineer, you will contribute to developing building blocks and applications related to the Farmmaps platform — a geodata platform for precision agriculture. Your work will help to improve the quality and stability of the national agro-data services platform, further develop tools, as well as developing new user applications. You will also work on digital twinning projects, developing digital environments of open fields and dairy farms.

Your main tasks and responsibilities as a software engineer are:

• Writing and debugging applications on Farmmaps and quality control of code.
• Co-develop with research project teams to define requirements
• Optimizing performance and ensure the security and scalability of applications.

Your team
You will work with other software engineers and with agronomists, biologists, plant disease specialists, and data modelers. Place of employment is the team Applied Ecology of Wageningen Plant Research, at Wageningen Campus.

Farmmaps
The farmmaps platform is based on agronomic knowledge encoded as decision rules and an ICT infrastructure (https://farmmaps.eu/en/ ) for collecting, managing, processing and responsively governing data, as well as sensing systems and equipment capable of precisely applying inputs (including automated machines and robotics).

You will work here
You will work within the Business unit Agrosystems Research, which focuses on innovations in the arable sector. Together with industry, academia and government, questions about arable and livestock farming are analyzed and translated into application-oriented research and innovation processes.

You have knowledge of designing, writing, implementing and documenting reliable software. You have strong communication skills and can discuss matters with other researchers and developers. This provides a clear overview of the requirements for getting projects up and running in the field.

Also you possess:

• a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science;
• relevant work experience;
• excellent programming skills in .NET (C#);
• experience in front-end development with Angular/ typescript;
• experience or knowledge with the following aspects is an advantage: Docker and Kubernetes; AWS (EKS); Geospatial data and tools (GDAL / Qgis / NetTopologieSuite); Git; Jira; Jenkins; Postgres (PostGIS); Openlayers;
• good language skills in Dutch and English.

In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level C2. If you do not yet have this level, we will of course help you and you can go to our language center Wageningen in'to Language

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €3.399,- and €6.228 for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10-11). Additionally, For this role a contract for 32 hours can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance.
