Job description

As an Administrative Assistant in Agriculture, you will collect and manage financial and sustainability data from agricultural businesses for the Business Information Network (BIN). You will oversee a portfolio of companies in one or more agricultural sectors of your choice: dairy, poultry, pigs, goats, or sheep. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining relationships with these entrepreneurs. You will work closely with our BIN participants at one of our regional offices in Alkmaar, The Hague, Drachten, Holten, Goes, Oisterwijk, Meijel, or Wageningen.

The Business Information Network (www.wur.nl/bedrijveninformatienet) comprises approximately 1,500 agricultural and horticultural businesses, 100 cutters and other fishing vessels, and 150 forestry companies. Around 30 administrative assistants at Wageningen Social & Economic Research maintain this network.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collecting financial and sustainability data from a fixed group of BIN companies. This data is sourced from business administration records or digital (electronic invoices), derived from the company's financial accounts, or gathered through surveys with the entrepreneur. You will record this data in a database and make it available to colleagues for research purposes.
  • Managing relationships with BIN participants. You will prepare an annual report for the entrepreneur detailing business results and key environmental indicators, and create a digital business comparison overview on MijnAgrimatie.nl. During visits to the entrepreneur, you will explain both reports and answer any questions. At the same time, you will initiate data collection for the new year. Each year, you will also recruit a few new participants to the Business Information Network to compensate for natural attrition. For a full-time position, this will require about one day per week on the road after your training period.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in managing a business in one or more agricultural sectors, such as dairy, poultry, pigs, goats, or sheep.
  • Strong numerical skills, experience with digital accounting systems and/or financial automation processes, meticulous working methods, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with various colleagues and entrepreneurs.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (B).
  • Excellent in Dutch (speaking and writing). Please note: Proficiency in Dutch is required for this position. If you do not speak and write Dutch at a sufficient level, unfortunately your application cannot be considered. Due to the high volume of English-language applications, we are unable to respond individually.

Please note: due to immigration restrictions it is not possible to obtain a working permit for this specific position if you are from outside of the European Union. If you are eligible for a search year or already are in possession of a work permit without sponsorship we welcome you to apply.
