Job description

The Integrated Optical Systems (IOS) group is looking for a motivated post-doc to help us setup and develop a 200 mm pilot microfabrication line for photonic integrated circuits (PICs) in the aluminium oxide platform. The IOS group is a world leader in the development of this photonic platform, which is currently being manufactured in the 100 mm MESA+ Nanolab microfabrication facility. Within the PIXEurope consortium, the process will be transferred to 200 mm manufacturing and a process design kit (PDK) of building blocks will be developed in the platform. You get a unique opportunity to help position Europe as a leader in integrated photonics.

Requirements

  • Ambitious, highly motivated, self-driven.
  • Good teamwork spirit, happiness in helping other team members.
  • Knowledge of and experience in design, fabrication and characterization of integrated photonics circuits.
  • Expertise in the deposition of optical materials, in particular sputter deposition, will be a plus.
  • Hands on expertise in both the operation and maintenance of PVD systems (i.e., sputtering, PLD, ALD).
  • Hold a PhD degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or a related field and have experience in research, which is apparent from publications in reputable academic journals, presentations in international scientific conferences, and other academic activities.
  • Conduct research within a multidisciplinary and highly diverse environment.
  • Active in networks for acquiring research funding, and have ambition and experience in working closely with companies and government agencies.
  • Good communication skills and an excellent command of English.

Conditions of employment

  • A full-time position.
  • Your salary and associated conditions are in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU).
  • You will receive a gross monthly salary depending on experience and qualifications from € 4.241,- to € 5.538,-.
  • There are excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme.
  • A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
  • Free access to sports facilities on campus.
  • A family-friendly institution that offers parental leave (both paid and unpaid).
  • Excellent career support and courses for your professional and personal development.

Department

The post-doc position will be embedded in the IOS group withing the Applied NanoPhotonics (ANP) department, which counts with several professors with fields of expertise spanning from integrated photonics technology development, optical biosensing, microwave photonics and quantum photonics. Three groups within the department are involved in the PIXEurope project, as well as the members of the MESA+ Nanolab.
