Job description

Within a large consortium on minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures, we are launching a project on chronic subdural hematoma, an increasingly prevalent condition in which blood collects between the dura and the brain and one of the most common neurosurgical conditions. We aim to improve efficacy and safety in the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma. This project consists of several complementary studies, including an international multicenter trial and a nationwide registry. Our new team member will play a key role in the design, coordination, and execution of the studies in this project.

Position Summary
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for supporting several aspects of all planned studies. This includes protocol development, data management, statistical analysis, and dissemination of findings through conferences and scientific articles. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative, international research environment and contribute to impactful clinical research in the field of vascular neurosurgery. Additionally, the postdoctoral researcher will supervise two PhD students working on key areas within the project. We offer a 4-year position (initial 1- year contract, with a 3- year extension) during which independent research proposals and grant applications can be developed to further support the candidate's career.

Key Responsibilities
Study Coordination:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a trial protocol across multiple international sites.
  • Liaise with participating centers to ensure compliance with study procedures and regulatory requirements.

Data Management & Analysis:
  • Oversee data collection, quality control, and database management.
  • Perform advanced statistical analyses and contribute to interpretation of results.

Scientific Contribution:
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and present findings at international conferences.
  • Co-author publications arising from the project.
  • Contribute to grant applications and progress reports.

Supervision & Mentorship:
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to two PhD students.
  • Support their research development and ensure timely progress of their projects.

Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with principal investigators, clinical teams, and data scientists.
  • Facilitate regular meetings and updates with international collaborators.

What we offer:
  • Access to international research networks and collaborations.
  • Training in advanced clinical trial methodology, biostatistics, and research leadership.
  • Opportunities to (co-)author high-quality publications in leading journals in neurosurgery, neurotrauma, and clinical research.
  • Support for developing independent research proposals and grant applications.
  • Opportunities to present at major international conferences and workshops.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has established experience in clinical trials, preferably with international collaboration. You work well in an interdisciplinary environment. Your work attitude shows scientific integrity and helps maintain a work environment with social and psychological safety. Established leadership and supervision skills are highly preferable.

Qualifications:
  • PhD in Neuroscience, Medicine, Epidemiology, Biomedical Sciences, or related fields.
  • Strong background in clinical research and biostatistics.
  • Experience with multicenter trials and regulatory processes.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prior experience in supervising students is highly preferable.
  • Proficiency in English at C1 level or higher is an advantage.
