Job description

We are seeking a skilled electromechanical technician to support our research in chemical reactor technologies. The role focuses on the design, assembly, and maintenance of complex laboratory set-ups, requiring strong expertise in electronics, instrumentation, and mechatronics.

Responsibilities:
  • Build, install, and maintain experimental reactor systems and supporting equipment.
  • Assemble and operate Swagelok connections, oven controllers, and mass flow controllers.
  • Perform electrical wiring, electronic troubleshooting, calibration, and repairs.
  • Integrate and maintain instrumentation and control systems (sensors, controllers, power supplies).
  • Support researchers with technical troubleshooting during experiments.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols (chemical and electrical).
  • Document set-ups, wiring schemes, and operating procedures

This position is directly supported by an external research contract.

Requirements

  • Technical education (MBO/HBO) in mechatronics, electrical engineering, instrumentation, or related fields.
  • Strong hands-on experience with electromechanical systems, electronics, and control equipment.
  • Practical skills in wiring, assembly, and troubleshooting of technical systems.
  • Experience with reactor or process equipment is an advantage.
  • Awareness of laboratory safety requirements.
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Good communication skills in English (and preferably Dutch).

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a fulltime position for 12 months;
  • Your salary and associated conditions are in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU);
  • Gross monthly salary between € 3.029,- and € 3.623,- fulltime (depending on experience and qualifications);
  • There are excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme;
  • A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis;

Department

The work will be carried out in the Catalytic Processes and Materials group within the department of chemical engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Twente (The Netherlands).
