Job description

This position is embedded at the TU/e Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) in close collaboration with the Eindhoven Center for Quantum Materials and Technology (QT/e) and with the Casimir Institute, a leading center for Semicon, Quantum and Photonics research. The role is financed by Quantum Delta NL (QDNL).

About the Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO)
The KTO is TU/e’s dynamic hub for transforming groundbreaking research into real-world applications. Our mission is to create impact through:
  • Spin-offs and Startups: Nurturing ventures from inception to success. Technology Transfer & IP Management: Protecting and managing intellectual property to maximize societal and economic value.
  • Entrepreneurship & Business Development: Supporting spin-offs and startups in our incubation programs.
  • Collaboration & Partnerships: Building strong ties with industry, government, and academia.

KTO collaborates closely with The Gate (TU/e, Brainport Development, BOM, and partners).

Information
Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and the Center for Quantum Materials and Technology (QT/e) are looking for a Business Developer Quantum to strengthen the Quantum Delta Brainport Eindhoven ecosystem. This role is at the heart of one of the five national innovation hubs of Quantum Delta NL, which aims to accelerate the adoption of quantum technologies for applications such as quantum computing, quantum secure communication, and quantum sensing applications. You will work at the intersection of cutting-edge research and industry. Your mission is to accelerate the commercialization of quantum technologies by supporting researchers, initiating spin-offs, and building strategic partnerships.

Operating from the Qubit building at TU/e campus, you will act as a “spider in the web” and connect TU/e research groups with industry, other QDNL hubs and funding bodies. You will work closely with TU/e colleagues, Brainport Development, BOM, and other partners to grow and energize the local ecosystem. Your responsibilities span three key areas:

Start-up Development: Identify commercially viable technologies, guide researchers through pre-incorporation phases, and ease spin-out processes in collaboration with the QDNL program.

Business Development: Build partnerships locally, nationally, and internationally; initiate collaborative projects; strengthen ties with end-users; and secure funding for new initiatives. Connecting the quantum industry with the (local) high-tech supply chain.

Quantum Campus Development: Coordinate housing and infrastructure plans for quantum start-ups at TU/e, High-Tech Campus, and Brainport Industries Campus, while expanding the quantum community and positioning Eindhoven as a leading quantum hub.

This role requires a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and strong networking skills to bridge science, business, and policy domains. You will work closely with the Business Developer at Brainport Development and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with regional and national strategies. Diversity, autonomy, and the opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge science, entrepreneurship, and industry are guaranteed.

Requirements

Education:

Academic level in a relevant direction; preferably physics, engineering, or business with strong affinity for deep-tech innovation.

Experience:
  • 5+ years in business development, preferably in high-tech or research-driven environments.
  • Proven track record in start-up support, technology valorization, and partnership building.

Expertise:
  • Understanding of quantum technologies or ability to learn quickly.
  • Familiarity with innovation ecosystems and funding instruments (national/EU).

Skills:
  • Strong networking and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to bridge science, business, and policy domains.
  • Proactive, organized, and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • Full-time position (40 hours/week). A part time 32 hours work week is an option.
  • Initial one-year contract, extension until December 31, 2028.
  • Salary: Scale 12 (€5.705 – €7.297) CAO-NU.
  • Attractive benefits: 8% holiday allowance, structural 8.3% year-end bonus, 41 paid vacation days.
  • Selection model for additional fringe benefits.
  • A favorable pension scheme.
  • Inspiring campus environment with excellent facilities and development opportunities.
  • Flexible working hours for optimal work-life balance such as partially paid parental leave and reimbursement for commuting expenses, working from home and the internet.
