Job description

The research technician will be involved in current research topics, which include activities such as, among others, the synthesis of new building blocks for self-assemblies, molecules for surface functionalization and nanoscale and organic materials; analysis of such materials. The technician will also be involved in the support and maintenance of equipment, support of the NMR facility, and other general tasks for the department. The technician will also be involved in education (training of students and their supervision in practicals).

Requirements

  • An enthusiastic chemist or chemical engineer at the BSc (from a university of applied science), equivalent to Dutch HBO level, who enjoys working both independently as well as in a team, and likes to take initiative. Also, lab technicians with experience working in industry or after finishing an apprenticeship in synthetic or analytical chemistry are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with the synthesis and purification of organic compounds is expected.
  • Expertise with NMR and its support is highly welcome.
  • Experience with various techniques to characterize organic molecules and materials, including surface-analytical techniques, is highly welcome.
  • Involvement in teaching and lab training of students is desired.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a fulltime position for one year, after which the position can become permanent, subject to a successful evaluation and if circumstances remain unchanged
  • Your salary and associated conditions are in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU).
  • Gross monthly salary between € 3.382.- and € 4.484.- fulltime (depending on experience and qualifications)
  • There are excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme.
  • A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.

Department

The Molecules & Materials department focuses on research and education in: organic, supramolecular and polymer chemistry, as well as organic materials. We use many different, state-of-the-art characterization techniques for the projects running within the department. We also accommodate the NMR facility of the faculty within our department.

The department is part of the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology and the TechMed Centre, which offers additional advanced characterization and fabrication tools, as well as a stimulating environment with more than 250 PhD students working on various aspects of nanoscience and technology and health-related topics.
