Do you like working in a team and want to make an impact with your research? This is your chance! Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society (TILT) is a large, diverse, interdisciplinary department, home to over 90 staff members, producing world-leading research and delivering innovative teaching at the intersection of regulation and technology. This role provides an exciting opportunity to conduct impactful research and develop and contribute to teaching within a collaborative team environment. Your position
You are a scholar in eHealth with a completed PhD in law, ready to contribute to our interdisciplinary research programme at the intersection of law, technology, and society. You conduct independent research on the governance of emerging health technologies, including AI-driven medical support and diagnostics, robotics, digital health infrastructures, European Health Data Space (EHDS) and cross-border health data sharing, with particular attention to fundamental rights such as the right to health, non-discrimination, data protection, and informed consent. We particularly value experience or strong interest in data protection, privacy law, and the regulation of AI in healthcare, especially in relation to explainability, liability, fairness, and trust in medical decision-making systems.
You will actively contribute to and take the lead in national and European research tenders, publish in leading academic outlets, and actively participate in interdisciplinary and international research consortia addressing the regulation and governance of medical innovation. We are looking for a colleague who combines strong doctrinal expertise with openness to interdisciplinary collaboration and policy-oriented research. In line with our team-science approach, you will work closely with scholars from different legal domains and non-legal disciplines, contributing to integrated projects across law, technology, and society.
Your ambitious research agenda will be linked to the TILT Signature Research Plan: Regulating Socio-Technical Change. This is a forward-looking research program that seeks to shape the Department’s agenda for research and policy at the intersection of law, regulation, and technology. You are also expected to collaborate on and develop research projects with others at TILT and Tilburg University.
TILT offers a world-class Master’s Program in Law & Technology and contributes to several other Master`s and Bachelor`s programs. At TILT, we value physical presence, active engagement, an inclusive mindset, and respectful collegial behaviour. We expect you to be in the office three days a week to ensure room for brainstorming, serendipity, and team spirit.
You will strengthen the Institute’s expertise in eHealth law and contribute to its ambition to shape legally robust, ethically grounded, and socially responsive governance of health technologies through high-quality research and teaching. We value initiative, leadership, and a collaborative mindset, as well as a willingness to engage with societal stakeholders, policymakers, and healthcare actors in academic conferences and policy events.
