Job description

Are you motivated by the responsible use of data and AI, and do you want your expertise to make a real impact beyond academia? In this role, you will work at the intersection of data governance, ethics, and cutting-edge AI, supporting companies and public organizations in Brabant as they develop next-generation AI solutions. If you are a Data Steward or Data Manager who enjoys combining technical insight with ethical and legal considerations in an international, interdisciplinary setting then we would like to hear from you.

Artificial Intelligence is a key enabling technology for economic growth and societal progress, and a critical driver of transformation across industries, food systems, healthcare, energy, and security. Regions that invest early in high-quality computing infrastructure, talent development, and robust innovation ecosystems will define the competitive landscape of the future. Brabant benefits from excellent universities and universities of applied sciences, a strong technology-driven business community, and a favorable investment climate. However, significant potential remains untapped. By making targeted investments in High-Performance Computing and the development of applied AI expertise, the region can advance toward the level of Europe’s leading regions, further leverage its economic strengths, and position itself as a prominent AI hub.

To accelerate this ambition, Eindhoven University of Technology, Tilburg University, JADS, the Province of North Brabant, and the Brabant Development Agency (BOM) have joined forces in the AI Supercomputing Initiative Brabant (AI-SIB). This initiative provides Brabant-based companies, knowledge institutions, and public organizations with access to large-scale computing power and the associated expertise.

The AI Supercomputing Initiative Brabant is designed as an ambitious multi-year program running until December 31, 2027. The steering committee will decide on a possible continuation of the initiative.

Information
You will have a dual role: both as a data steward as well as an advising data manager within the Data steward team. You will support companies in preparing for fit-for-purpose data packages that comply with technical requirements as well as ELSA (ethical, legal and societal aspects) requirements. i.e. verifying the quality of the data packages, including privacy, bias, accountability, and transparency. At the Supercomputing Center you will work in a group consisting of a business developer, a service manager and two ML engineers. You will collect project information and evaluate the potential of the projects before ML engineers will take over the support role.
The project with companies and non-commercial organizations in the province of Brabant will stretch out over a period of two years. If this collaboration is successful, there will be opportunities to continue working together with companies in Brabant.

The job entails:
  • Support and advise companies and non-commercial organizations in Brabant to solve ELSA related compliance issues as prerequisite of the AI compute processes, including

    • Provide support with Data Processing Agreements (DPA);
    • Depending on the type of the data, conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) in collaboration with the Privacy team of the TU/e;
  • Support and advise companies and non-commercial organizations in Brabant on data quality related issues in preparation of the AI compute processes;
  • Develop and provide information sessions on compliance and data quality in the Brabant AI community in close collaboration with the AI SIB Community Manager;
  • Contribute to the development of a knowledge base containing the most important information in terms of ELSA and data quality and the related process steps in the use cases of this project;
  • Together with experts from TU/e and TiU, support the development of an ELSA initiative for companies and non-commercial organizations;
  • Work closely with experts at both TU/e and TiU on the development of a knowledge framework with respect to data management that can be used within AI Supercomputing Initiative Brabant but also in other initiatives and by other parties;
  • As a member of the Data Steward team at the TU/e you will introduce the use cases and obtain and share knowledge on relevant rules and regulations; also including the the EU AI.act;

  • Solid experience in creating high quality data sets, RDM and data stewardship;
  • Proactive and result-oriented attitude. You gain energy from pioneering and collaborating within a relatively new field of work;
