The Mission of Wageningen UR

Wageningen UR is dedicated to making a concrete and fundamental contribution to the major issues of this time, such as the availability of sufficient and healthy food, dealing with climate change and developing sustainable energy supplies.
The Strength of Wageningen UR
The strength of Wageningen UR lies not only in the combination of Wageningen University, Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences and the DLO Foundation, a collection of specialised research institutes, but also in the collaboration between different natural and social science disciplines. Today's issues are almost never just scientific, technical or social scientific in nature. Wageningen UR's combination of knowledge and experience makes it capable of actively contributing to these issues. This is a particular hallmark of the Wageningen approach.
Our Field of Activity
Wageningen UR educates people and develops knowledge in the area of life sciences and natural resources. We work on knowledge to produce safe and healthy food that is also environmentally friendly. Healthy and safe for us, but also for our environment. We study plants and animals in the wild and as part of sustainable fishery and agricultural systems. We also do research on water, nature, forests, the environment, soil, landscape, climate, recreation and all kinds of other aspects that are important for the development and management of the living environment.
With our socio-economic research we support governments and companies in their choices of entrepreneurship, controlling production chains, planning, environmental care, management of natural resources, European agricultural policy and global trade. At the same time Wageningen UR includes this new knowledge in its curriculum.
Within these fields of activity, we do both fundamental/strategic and applied and practical research as well as develop study programmes for universities and universities of applied sciences. However, our work doesn't stop at the border because we participate in hundreds of projects within the EU and throughout the world.
