At Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), the department Erasmus Research Services is currently developing a coherent set of support services for researchers to achieve the university’s ambitions regarding research and impact. During the preparation and execution of research projects, these services include support concerning legal issues, research intelligence, data management, research ethics and support to obtain grants among others.
To strengthen its activities in the area of Grant Support, Erasmus Research Services is hiring a Grant Advisor, Research Grants.

Job description

National and European funding schemes are an important way to boost both frontier and applied research. It is the EUR’s ambition to keep increasing the quantity and quality of its funding applications in the coming years as a means to perform excellent research with a positive societal impact.  

As Grant Advisor, you will provide guidance to researchers in the application process for a diverse palette of research grants. You will support researchers in applying for proposals for both European and Dutch national funding programmes, representing the various research disciplines within the Erasmus University Rotterdam. You will provide researchers with information about funding opportunities and programme terms and conditions, think along with researchers, provide enthusiastic support, and play an active role in the organisation and creation of grant proposals. In particular, you will provide custom- made support in the development of research proposals for both individual and consortium-based research programmes. You will work in close collaboration with the grant officers in the schools and other specialists in the Erasmus Research Services.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To scout within the university for suitable candidates for specific grant applications
  • To provide necessary coaching and support to applicants for research grants
  • To coordinate campus-wide information sessions about research grants
  • To coordinate training sessions for applicants of research grants, including mock interviews
  • To contribute to the coordination of the community grant support
  • To report to senior management of research at the EUR on the university performance concerning research grants
  • To maintain external contacts with relevant agencies to anticipate new developments

Requirements

Required experience and skills are:

  • University education, at least Master degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the advising and development of grant-funded projects, or similar experience in organizing, coordinating and/or managing grant-funded research;
  • Detailed knowledge of the rules and procedures relating to grants from the European Commission and NWO
  • An entrepreneurial, hands-on and open attitude
  • Ability to prioritize and perform under strict time constraints
  • Ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders across the university
  • Ability to critically assess existing practices and effectively implement improvements
  • Excellent communication skills (Dutch and English)
  • Proactive, stress-resistant and can put things in perspective.
  • Ability to build up and maintain a network with internal (EUR) stakeholders and funding agencies to coordinate supply and demand.

You will become a member of the department Erasmus Research Services, a team of approximately 17 people. You will report to the Director of the Erasmus Research Services.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Initially for one year, in case of good performance the contract may be extended or changed to a permanent contract.

Internationally-oriented and varied work within an enthusiastic team, with attractive fringe benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU). We offer a contract initially for one year (1 fte, full-time appointment is 38 hours). In case of good performance the contract may be extended or changed to a permanent contract. Your remuneration will depend on the position, and within that your specific knowledge and experience, and will be calculated on the basis of full-time salary ranging between € 3.637,- and € 4.987,- gross per month (salary scale 11, CAO NU). Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and 41 holidays per year based on a full-time appointment. In addition, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we also offer partially paid parental leave. Moreover, EUR staff members are allowed to make use of the EUR facilities, including the Erasmus Sports Centre and the University Library.

At Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), Erasmus Research Services is currently developing a coherent set of harmonized services across the university. During the preparation and execution of research projects, these services include support concerning legal issues, intelligence, ethics, data management and support to obtain grants among others. For each type of services communities of practice exist, consisting of support staff from relevant central offices and the various schools at the EUR. The communities are instrumental in the specification, implementation and adoption of new services.
