Job description

The creation and dissemination of knowledge are at the heart of the University’s activities. The University Library aims to become the university’s content manager: we support researchers and students to excel in creating and disseminating knowledge. In this way, we contribute to the impact and relevance of Erasmus University Rotterdam. 

Within the Library’s open culture a new position of Research Data Curator is created to advance this objective within the team of Data- and Publication Support. 

The Research Data Curator will focus on data curation related to storage and sharing within the management of the whole research data lifecycle (identification, management, curation and preservation) in order to service our research community best. This position would actively participate in implementing FAIR data principles into the operations

The duties will be diverse, combining individual and group tasks, intensively cooperating with different stakeholders on the University grounds. This includes:

·       Clean, enhance, and transform research (meta-)data

·       Verify, process, and curate standards for data management and curation

·       Collaborate with other units to optimize data access and usage

·       Track sector developments and identify opportunities for enhancement  

·       Engage in outreach efforts to assist with the adoption of new tools and services

·       Provide data management consultations to campus data creators

Requirements

What we request from you

·       Experience with managing research datasets using analytic tools and/or statistical software packages, ideally backed up with a relevant educational background

·       Strong interpersonal, consultation and communication skills

·       Ability to liaise effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders being researchers, support departments, data centers and legal experts

·       Understanding of how research operates and how data and software underpins high-quality research

·       Knowledge of the challenges surrounding research data management such as licensing, privacy and migration

·       Proficiency in Dutch and English (minimum B2)

·       Capacity to identify challenges and opportunities, engage others in their resolution and recommend appropriate courses of action
