Job description

The Amsterdam Business School of the Faculty Economics and Business has a vacancy for an Assistant professor in Finance.

Candidates are expected to contribute to the school’s research and teaching. The teaching load is moderate, and all teaching is in English. Candidates are expected to publish their research in international top journals. The tenure decision will be made in accordance with the Amsterdam Business School tenure track criteria, which include criteria for research output.

Requirements

Requirements are a PhD (completed or near completion) and the ability to conduct state-of-the-art academic research, to stimulate and encourage the research of others and the ability to communicate research ideas in seminars and in the classroom. Assistant Professor appointments are tenure-track positions.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: six years.

We offer a six year tenure track position as Assistant professor. Upon meeting the criteria for tenure, we will offer a permanent contract as Associate professor. The gross monthly salary during the first three years as Assistant professor will typically be, depending on experience, between €4,138 and €4,978 (salary scale 11) based on 38 hours per week (+ 16.3% holiday and end-year payments). After a positive midterm evaluation the maximum becomes €5,656 (salary scale 12). This is based on 38 hours per week and in accordance with the salary scales and the collective labour agreement regulating employment conditions at Dutch universities. In cases of exceptional performance, a temporary labor market allowance may be granted. A substantial reduction in income tax (equal to 30% of taxable salary) may apply to non-Dutch candidates. The UvA offers a very attractive pension scheme.
The intended start date is 1 September 2020.

The Finance Group at the University of Amsterdam is an internationally recognized research group with a strong focus on high-quality academic research. The Finance Group offers courses at the undergraduate, graduate, executive (MBA and Master in International Finance) and PhD (at the Tinbergen Institute) levels. The teaching load is reasonable and can be concentrated both in time and in preparations. The working language (including teaching) is English.
