What will you be doing?
As a member of the team of research software engineers (RSE) you are an expert in software development. You will spend most of your time on developing research software in collaboration with research groups within the university's faculties, structuring and developing code for these projects. These specific periods of work are likely to last between three and nine months per project, with the possibility of working for more than one project at the same time.
You will also join the RSE-team’s effort in providing relevant training for PhD’s and researchers, actively engage in the TU Delft RSE-community, that is to be set up, by sharing the latest developments in the field of RSE, and help set up, maintain and disseminate relevant policies and guidelines.

Since the set-up of the RSE team is in a pilot phase, this position has a fixed-term contract of 2 years. The salary is in the range indicated above (according to the VSNU salary scale) and will depend on your current working experience. In addition, TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount for health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

This is where you will be working
Within the IT Innovation department, we support researchers, teachers and students in understanding and applying IT in the best possible way. We work closely with the Shared Service Center ICT to convert promising technologies into campus-wide services. We also work closely with the Data Stewards, the Library and the Faculty IT Managers to identify new opportunities for supporting our researchers through IT.
Research Software Engineering team
Good software development is rapidly becoming a crucial part of high-quality research. Initiated by TU Delft’s Open Science Programme, a team of research software engineers is being set up. This team will play a major role in enhancing the university’s capability and expertise in developing research software.
Members of this team will contribute to all four pillars of research software engineering: Software Development, Community, Training and Policy.
