Job description

Within the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences the Concrete Structures Group, consisting of 13 people, is conducting high-quality research at the interface between science, engineering and design.

The main research lines currently pursued by the Group are

  1. assessment and maintenance of existing concrete structures such as buildings, bridges, dams, etc;
  2. introduction of innovative, CO2-neutral, concrete-based materials into the structural design and construction;
  3. development of new techniques for monitoring of concrete structures.

In order to maintain and further strengthen the leading role of TU Delft in this research field a permanent position for Full (or Associate) Professor has opened up.

In this role you are expected to interweave theoretical and experimental research where newly developed concepts, measurement techniques and models are directly calibrated by experimental research conducted at large scale in the internationally known Stevin II laboratory.

To achieve this goal, coordinated efforts are being made to streamline research and educational activities, so that both innovations and highly qualified specialists are delivered in order to face such major societal challenges as sustainable urbanization, smart transportation and climate change resilience.

Our ideal candidate has a clear and unambiguous vision of a way towards a sustainable future for the built environment and demonstrates a collaborative and coaching leadership style, with proven experience in building collaborations among disciplines and with multiple stakeholders.

You are expected to have broad knowledge of and in-depth experience in application-inspired research in the field of Concrete Structures. Besides being a bright scientist, you are a team player who enjoys connecting people and working together.

Scientific creativity is required as well as proven ability to attract funding from diverse sources and open new directions for scientific developments within the research field of Concrete Structures.

Furthermore you have capacity for strategic thinking and formulating a roadmap that will ensure optimal contribution of the Group to future challenges.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Nader te bepalen.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. (salary indication: €5.749-€10.106 per month). A tax scheme might by applicable.

Faculty Civil Engineering & Geosciences

The Faculty of Civil Engineering & Geosciences (CEG) is committed to outstanding international research and education in the field of civil engineering, applied earth sciences, traffic and transport, water technology, and delta technology. Our research feeds into our educational programmes and covers societal challenges such as climate change, energy transition, resource depletion, urbanisation and the availability of clean water, conducted  in close cooperation with a wide range of research institutions. CEG is convinced that Open Science helps to achieve our goals and supports its scientists in integrating Open Science in their research practice. The Faculty of CEG comprises 28 research groups in seven departments.
