Job description

As Lecturer in the Department Life Sciences of Erasmus University College (EUC), you will become part of an international team of enthusiastic and highly motivated tutors, lecturers, and senior lecturers. Your tasks will include:

  • coordination and teaching of courses in the field of medical biology, such as human physiology and anatomy, cardiology and life support;
  • tutoring small student groups within the aforementioned courses, but also in other, multidisciplinary courses (mostly academic skills courses);
  • supervision of Capstone (Bachelor thesis) projects of students in their final year at EUC;
  • participation in general EUC activites, such as Experience Days, Open Days, marketing activities and student admission interviews.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD in a field related to Medical Biology; candidates who are finalising their PhD-research are also encouraged to apply;
  • You should have, or be willing to obtain, the University Teaching Qualification (in Dutch, Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs).
  • You have demonstrable affinity with teaching and enjoy guiding students;
  • You are willing and able to guide tutorial groups on a broad range of (medical) biological subjects as well as academic skills;
  • You are a team player who looks forward to working together in a close-knit team of tutors and (senior) lecturers and to becoming a proactive member of a stimulating academic community that is the hallmark of a university college;    
  • You have excellent communication skills and you are highly proficient in the English language.

Conditions of employment

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is as soon as possible, but preferably not later dan 15 January 2023 and you will be based at EUC in Rotterdam. The successful candidate will be offered a full-time, one year contract with Erasmus University Rotterdam. The contract can be extended in case of a positive assessment.                                                                                                                       

In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and is set at a maximum of CAO NU scale 10 with a minimum of €2960 and a maximum of €4670 gross per month, on a fulltime basis. In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid extended birth leave for partners, a personal education budget, work-life balance coaches and more. Employees can also use EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus sports center and the University library.
