Role

As a tenure-track assistant professor of supply chain management (SCM) in the department of Technology and Operations Management (TOM) at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), you’ll be working in a research-led business school. The expertise of our SCM section is broad yet concentrated on the processes of global logistics, sourcing, facility logistics and distribution, and addresses topics such as sustainability, digitalisation, analytics, and behavioural aspects. In education, we contribute to pre-experience and post-experience programs, including specialised MSc programs in Supply Chain Management and in Business Analytics & Management. Our research combines analytical and data-driven methods and is often carried out in collaboration with (inter)national partners. We value engagement with practitioners, policy makers and other societal stakeholders to support RSM's mission to be a force for positive change.

Your main tasks
  • Conducting research, independently and in collaboration with others. In your work, you are closely involved with Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) – the joint research institute of RSM and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE).
  • Teaching elements of operations and SCM in RSM’s bachelor programmes and specialised master programmes. RSM offers a broad and useful spectrum of responsive student audiences (Bachelor, Master, MBA, Executive, PhD) for faculty to develop and apply different didactical approaches and varying mixes of applied vs. fundamental research content. In addition to teaching courses, SCM faculty supervise MSc students who usually carry out their theses in combination with industry projects.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 72 months.

  • Our SCM group encompasses scholars with diverse backgrounds and research portfolios, ranging from ones with a primarily OR/MS or mathematical background to ones with an empirical OM/SCM orientation. Such blending of research interests and methods leads to cross-fertilization of ideas and facilitates multi-disciplinary research.
  • In our SCM group, we have a high level of collaboration, and a strong admin team to support finance, HR and teaching. We are also a diverse group, with more than 10 different nationalities on our team, which consists of some 30 faculty members, around 15 (part-time and full-time) PhD students and various adjunct faculty members and visiting scholars. While being a large organization, RSM is characterized by a friendly and open culture, and we respect work freedom and work-life balance.
  • Working from home is possible, but we strongly encourage regular office presence to facilitate interaction with colleagues and students.

Rotterdam is easy to navigate on foot or bike, while public transport (e.g., bus, metro, tram) is widely and frequently available.

The conditions of employment correspond with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 4,814 (scale 11.6 CAO NU) and up to a maximum of € 5,439 gross per month (scale 11.11 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

Erasmus University has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8 per cent, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent, and a considerate amount of vacation days.
