Job description

The successful candidate is expected to perform teaching and supervising tasks for the International Bachelor’s programme in Arts and Culture Studies (IBACs) and/or the Master’s programme Arts, Culture and Society. We are particularly looking for a candidate with knowledge and expertise in the field of urban creativity, culture, placemaking, and urban sustainable development. The candidate is expected to contribute to the Cultuur&Campus project in Rotterdam South through impact-driven research and education (more information on the project: www.putselaan.nl).

Requirements

  • A PhD in one of the social sciences, preferably in the field of sociology or geography, and ranks among the 10-20% of his or her peer group;
  • A strong research track record, including publications in international refereed journals;
  • Expert knowledge in the field of urban studies, sustainable development, cultural participation and/or the creative economy, and the ability to make a substantial contribution to the development of introductory and specialization courses in these fields;
  • A broad knowledge and mastery of common research methods in the social sciences, with particular focus on participatory research;
  • A well-documented and sustained interest in arts and culture (work experience is also appreciated);
  • The potential to generate research funds from national and international funding agencies and to supervise junior researchers and PhD students;
  • Prior teaching experience and the proven ability to inspire students from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, apparent from positive assessments by students and peers.
  • The ability and willingness to teach a wide range of topics in the field of media and communication and to develop new courses;
  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written Dutch and English. Non-native English and non-native Dutch speakers have to meet the C1-standards of the Common European Framework (CEF);
  • Strong team-playing, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to cooperate with diverse stakeholders;
  • Experience in international academic settings.

Conditions of employment

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is October 15th, 2023 The position concerns a temporary contract which will be running for one-year until October 14th, 2024. After this period, a permanent contract is possible.

You will be based at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC), located at Erasmus University Rotterdam, campus Woudestein. The position is for 0,8 fte - 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 3.974 to a maximum of € 5.439 gross per month on a fulltime basis, in accordance with Scale 11 of the CAO-NU. In accordance with the CAO NU a placement in a starting grade is possible for the maximum duration of two years.

In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme.
