Job description
Leadership and the related mode of collaboration in this position is characterised by a dean who:
  1. creates a working environment in which professionals are given room for growth, feel ownership and are allowed to take responsibility;
  2. shows courage in making clear choices;
  3. creates an environment where cooperation is highly valued and where people feel seen and recognised;

The dean:
  • contributes proactively and constructively to the governance and strategic development of UM and invests in a strong collaboration with other deans and the Executive Board;
  • has final responsibility within the Faculty Board and leads the faculty together with the other board members;
  • steers clear decisions and pursues the faculty's strategic course with enthusiasm;
  • realises support for the decisions and weighs up the interests and is accountable for this;
  • stimulates mutual involvement in a socially safe climate within the faculty by being visible and investing in an open and good relationship with the entire faculty community;
  • as a bridge builder, stimulates interdisciplinary cooperation across departmental and faculty boundaries, seeks connection and cooperation with the Brightlands campuses and other regional, national and international partners;
  • actively monitors the connection between strategy and strategic personnel planning, in which the broad development of diversity and the recognition and appreciation of talents are important areas of attention;
  • stimulates personal responsibility of employees within the agreed frameworks of the faculty, actively manages to identify and make use of everyone's talents and gives space to achieve results while balancing ambitions with the (perceived) workload;
  • stimulates the development of research and directs research funds (second and third income stream) for growth in the research areas;
  • bears responsibility for the development of education according to UM's vision, renews the education portfolio where necessary;
  • ensures the educational accreditations and research visitations;
  • strategically expands FPN's strong regional and international network.

Conditions of employment

What we offer

As Dean Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN), you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
  • This is a full-time position with an appointment term of 4 years. This appointment term can be extended for another 4 years after a positive evaluation.
  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 18 according to UFO profile Professor 1, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from € 8815,00 and €11686,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • A maximum monthly salary in accordance with the professorial salary scales with an allowance between 15% and 25% of the gross annual salary (depending on years of experience as dean).
  • An indefinite employment contract at Maastricht University with a scope of 1.0 FTE.
  • At the end of the deanship, the UM sabbatical leave scheme applies.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
