Job description

Are you passionate about research? Do you thrive in a multi-cultural environment? Are you interested in pursuing applications of your work to real-world problems? Here is a unique opportunity for you!

This vacancy is part of the Irène Curie Fellowship and is currently only open to female candidates.

The Discrete Mathematics (DM) cluster of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (M&CS) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is looking for an Assistant Professor in Applied Algebra and Geometry. In this role you will join the Discrete Algebra and Geometry (DAG) group, which includes Mireille Boutin, Hans Cuijpers, Rob Eggermont and Hans Sterk, and work with over 130 faculty colleagues across the department to fulfill the research and teaching mission of the university.

Algebra and geometry are a traditional strength of the DM cluster. In recent years, these areas have started to play a crucial role in the solution of problems encountered in applications, including problems that have been traditionally solved using more numerical approaches. For example, combining techniques from algebra/geometry and more traditional numerical methods has contributed to solving contemporary challenges in biology, optimization and machine learning, to name just a few. The DAG group is thus focusing its new hires on candidates with a core focus in algebra and/or geometry but with a view towards applications.

Do you have accomplished research in some core area of algebra and/or geometry? Do you demonstrate openness in pursuing collaborations with engineers and industry? Candidates whose research has applications in other domains of science, such as biology, chemistry, or physics, are particularly welcome to apply.

The language of instruction at TU/e is English. The start date is flexible, but could be as early as June 1, 2024.
