Job description

The Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy (GRIP) in the Faculty of Science and Engineering has a position for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy group. We offer a challenging, interdisciplinary research project whose aim it is to develop a microfluidic biological model to study nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, termed Non-Alcoholic SteatoHepatitis (NASH). The objectives of the project are to (1) address the induction of steatosis in the liver utilizing an ex vivo precision-cut liver slice model (2) to develop a microfluidic device to study the effect of the effluent of nonalcoholic fatty liver precision-cut liver slices on human effector cells (e.g. fibroblasts and cancer cells) (3) to identify NASH-specific biomarkers.

You will be working in a stimulating interdisciplinary biomedical team including cell biologists, analytical chemists, and medical clinicians. You will be involved in the supervision of PhD students. There will be close collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Analysis group in GRIP (Prof Sabeth Verpoorte, microfluidics) and with the University of Mainz (Prof Detlef Schuppan, NASH).
