The Research Program Urban Technology of the Faculty of Technology, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS/HvA) is looking for a Senior Researcher/Lecturer Data Analytics (0,6- 0,8 FTE) for our rapid growing Urban Analytics team.

We invite applicants for a senior researcher position of 0,6 FTE for a period of 1 year with the possibility to extend after the first year.

Depending on the capacities of the applicant and the formation of the bachelor of Engineering the candidate can also have a position as a lecturer data science for 0,2 FTE.

The position

You will be involved in the overall Urban Analytics team of the research program Urban Technology. The team is developing a Big Data Station, a permanent environment where students, lecturers, researchers and industry partners collaborate to use data analysis for industry challenges. The teams perform data studies for the research programs in Urban Technology, with a focus on the energy and logistics domain. You publish results in scientific and professional publications. You will be engaged in managing projects, and in guiding junior researchers and students.

Requirements

We are looking for

You have completed a PhD in a relevant field. You have evident knowledge of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Operations Research and experience with data-analysis. Having advanced computer skills in R or Python is a must. Preferable you have knowledge about Hadoop and related software. You have developed data science skills in data related projects. You have a strong network in the field of data science that can be used for acquisition for student assignments. You are flexible, and you are ready for the challenge of working in a new experimental setting. You are able to guide junior researchers in data science projects. With your passion for data science you are able to inspire students and your own team members. You are an out of the box thinker, innovator and motivator. You have good verbal and written English skills.

Conditions of employment

We offer a diverse and dynamic position in a challenging and friendly environment. Preferably we employ the senior researcher for 0,8 fte. 

Salary scale 11 (CAO – HBO Collective Agreement for Universities of applied science) applies to this position of  researcher/lecturer. The gross salary is maximum €4.661,- per month based on full-time employment. The post will initially involve a temporary appointment for one year and extension will be dependent on demonstrated suitability for the post and the possibilities for creating a permanent position.

Department

The research program

Urban Technology is a research program of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Applied Science Amsterdam that focusses on research, design and the realization of smart technical solutions for the city. There are four active research themes:  Urban Design, Mobility, Circular City and Energy. The program has a current staff of 7 professors and about 45 fte researchers. The faculty includes 6.614 students in engineering, logistics, built environment, aviation, forensics, maritime officer and applied mathematics.

To support the research groups we have built up a urban analytics group, which will perform data analyses, mathematical modelling and apply computer algorithms together with the research groups.

The group will also build an expertise and knowledge center, where researchers, students and lecturers can find techniques and references for the data studies they want to perform.
