Job description

The Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy (API) has a new postdoctoral position to strengthen astroparticle physics in the Netherlands. The position is intended to support analysis with H.E.S.S. and other gamma-ray data (67%), as well as connecting this to multi-messenger physics in general (33%).

You will be appointed for 2 + 1 years and will be embedded in the research group of Dr Jacco Vink, which is part of the GRAPPA center for astroparticle physics. You will work in close collaboration with the group of Prof. J. Hörandel, who leads the multi-messenger/Pierre Auger Collaboration group at the Radboud University, Nijmegen.

The research will focus on Galactic TeV sources such as supernova remnants and pulsar wind nebula. Current H.E.S.S. projects that Jacco Vink is involved in concern supernova remnants and sources in the Magellanic Clouds. However, expertise in other areas of gamma-ray astronomy is also valued, also in the context of multimessenger physics, and the questions about the origin of cosmic rays.

  • PhD in astronomy and/or physics;
  • proven track record in observational TeV astronomy and a strong interest in multi-messenger physics.

You will become a member of H.E.S.S. collaboration, and visit the observatory in Namibia at least 2 times for observation runs during the tenure.

Conditions of employment

The appointment is intended for an initial period of 2 years, with renewal for a 3rd year contingent upon funding and satisfactory progress.
