The group of Dr. Juan Garaycoechea currently has a vacancy for a Technician to work on Mechanisms of physiological mutagenesis.
Description of the project:
DNA carries the instructions of life, but is also under constant attack. The resulting damage, if not repaired, leads to mutation and disease. Common environmental mutagens include sunlight and cigarette smoke, but the integrity of DNA is also threatened by chemicals produced by our own body. Our lab seeks to understand the metabolic sources of DNA damage and molecular mechanisms that lead to mutagenesis in a physiological setting. In order to do this, we will develop methods to quantify mutation in somatic tissue and use genetics in a number of systems, including mice, to gain mechanistic insight into the process that drive this.
Requirements:
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled technician with an HLO background and experience with molecular biology and cell culture methods. Experience with Next Generation Sequencing and library preparation is advantageous. The working language in our international team is English, the candidate should therefore have excellent English communication skills and be able to work as part of a team. Ideal candidates have experience with general lab management tasks.
Duration:
Initially one year with a potential extension.
Salary:
According to “CAO-Nederlandse Universiteiten” (CAO-NU), depending on age and experience scale 7 excluding 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus. We offer an extensive package of fringe benefits.
The Hubrecht Institute – an Academy research institute – focused on developmental and stem cell biology. It encompasses 20 research groups that perform fundamental and multidisciplinary research, both in healthy systems and disease models. Since 2008, the institute is affiliated with the University Medical Center Utrecht, advancing the translation of research to the clinic. The Hubrecht Institute has a partnership with the UMC Utrecht, Utrecht University, Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and Oncode Institute.
