Job description
Our team of student advisers is responsible for student counselling and guidance. In this position, you would be working with the bachelor and master students who study at RSM. Day-to-day tasks include:
providing information to students with regard to their education, both individually and in groups
giving students one-to-one guidance and counselling, in both personal and academic issues
if necessary, referring students to other professionals at Erasmus University such as the university psychologists and student counsellors
meeting with students to discuss study-related problems and study skills
advising students on strategies on how to meet the binding study advice requirements, master admission requirements, choices within their programme such as electives, minor, exchange and internship, and options outside of their programme such as extracurricular activities, choosing a master programme and career issues
monitoring students’ study progress
advising the Examination Board on individual arrangements for students
closely co-operating with colleagues from the different departments of RSM involved in teaching and student-supporting affairs.
Required qualifications
To qualify for this position, you should:
hold a master degree (WO)
have relevant experience working in a higher educational environment
preferably have completed formal training and experience in individual counselling
have excellent communication skills
be a native Dutch speaker and highly proficient in English (at least certified at C1 level in the CEFR, http://www.eur.nl/english/ltc/cefr_levels)
be able to maintain detailed records of your activities and contacts with students
have experience with student information systems, preferably Osiris, and verifiable experience with spreadsheet programmes such as Excel.
We are looking for someone who is empathic, culturally sensitive and open-minded. Ideally, you should also have experience and affinity with students, and be autonomous, pro-active, stress-resistant and an excellent team player. Having a good sense of humour and being able to put things in perspective are highly valued in our team.
Employment conditions
The role preferably starts on 1 February 2019. Contracts will initially be running for one year, with a possible extension. Please bear in mind that due to peak load in July and August, your summer holiday should be planned in consultation with the other team members.
The conditions of employment correspond with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO NU). Salary is subject to knowledge and experience, and will be within the CAO NU salary scale 8 or 10 (€ 2,514 up to a maximum of € 4,166 gross per month), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours. Erasmus University Rotterdam has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8.0 per cent, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent, and a considerate amount of vacation days.
