Job description

The EUR-wide Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) programme aims to create equal opportunities and an inclusive learning and working environment for all students and staff at Erasmus University. The programme consists of a D&I office, project managers, a programme manager and a Chief Diversity Officer.

We are looking for a proactive communication advisor to focus on engagement with regard to Diversity and Inclusion and to activate and unite the EUR community in this field. This must help boost the visibility of the subject and promote a cultural change within the university. Together with the D&I programme manager, the Chief Diversity Officer, the D&I office and the project managers, you ensure that the D&I programme inspires and stimulates staff and students to become involved in diversity and inclusion so that it becomes an integral part of EUR. You do this from the Marketing & Communications Unit, where you will be working.

We are looking for a professional with a great deal of energy, drive and enthusiasm for this subject, with a sense of the political and administrative context and relationships.


In this position, you are responsible for communicating Diversity and Inclusion:

  • You draw up and implement a communications strategy for D&I.
  • You monitor the positioning of D&I and ensure that D&I and the office are visible inside and outside EUR.

  • You give project managers, the programme manager and the Chief Diversity Officer (communications) advice in relation to D&I projects, communications and help them fulfil their communication role in a satisfactory manner.

  • You manage and contribute to a good reputation for EUR with respect to D&I.

  • You create and monitor the content strategy and content planning and maintain relations with various editing boards and networks.

  • You programme and organise meetings and events. 

  • You develop communication media, write and edit texts for various target groups and media (website, intranet, social media, newsletters).

  • You handle general press questions and interview requests. Where necessary, you work together with the spokesperson(s) from the university.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who speaks and writes at native English level. You have an university degree in Communications or Marketing and at least three years' experience with communications in cultural change projects. Moreover, you have proven knowledge of and experience with community engagement and the use of online and social media (with text and images). You have a clear, concise, dynamic writing style and you speak and write to a high level in both English (CEFR level C2) and Dutch. You are proactive, a real self-starter, good at organising and you like to work in a team. The work is very diverse and requires tactical insight, organisational sensitivity and a practical approach. You are used to taking the initiative yourself and giving proactive advice. And we naturally expect you to be very interested in diversity and inclusion. Knowledge of the academic world is an advantage.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Initially for one year.

Interesting work with good terms of employment in accordance with the CAO NU (collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities). The appointment is initially for one year. The salary depends on your knowledge and experience. For a full-time appointment, this is between € 3,545 and € 4,852 gross per month (scale 11).

EUR has attractive employment conditions, including an 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% year-end bonus and 41 days of holiday leave based on a full-time working week. In the case of an 8 hour working day, you also accrue 2 hours of leave. EUR also participates in the General Pension Fund for Public Employees and offers partially paid parental leave. Staff may also use EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus Sports Centre and the University Library.

The Marketing & Communications department (M&C) is responsible for providing the overall direction and implementation of the integrated marketing communications for Erasmus University Rotterdam. The department is also responsible for strengthening EUR’s reputation and brand awareness to both internal and external audiences. 

M&C focuses on several strategic areas of expertise:

  • Reputation management and corporate branding

  • Research marketing

  • Education marketing (recruitment)

  • Public affairs and press

  • Relations management

EUR is in the process of developing a new Strategy 2024. The Marketing & Communications department is in transition from being part of the University Support Centre to becoming a separate directorate under direct supervision of the Board.
