Job description

The Safety and Security Science section is one of the three sections within the VTI department. The section provides safety - and security - science education for all technical study programmes at TU Delft. As of next academic year (2019/2020), there is a need for a lecturer who can contribute to the increased educational work load. Inspiring, excellent education is a central objective of TU Delft and the department. The Safety and Security Science section is known for its research and teaching of methods and techniques for risk analysis of socio-technical systems. The issues we study are socially relevant and require a multidisciplinary approach. We are design oriented and want to make an important contribution to the solution of technical and social issues. We have extensive networks in science and practice, and are internationally oriented. The Values, Technology and Innovation (VTI) department is one of the three departments of the TPM faculty. The Safety Science section is looking for a temporary safety science lecturer for a period of 2 years. In this position you will make an important contribution to the teaching, evaluation and (further) development of safety science education at TU Delft, particularly in the minors of the Bachelor phase. Safety science education consists of teaching methods and techniques for carrying out risk analyses of systems and processes, as well as teaching ethical and economic analyses of these systems and processes. The theme of responsible and safe innovation of new technologies is an important part of education.

You will also play a central role in coordinating and planning the Section's educational activities. This will require regular consultation with the lecturers involved and the section leader. You are willing to work in a multidisciplinary environment and have proven experience in providing and developing education and guidance for Bachelor and Master students. Finally, you will spend part of your time (0.2 FTE) on scientific research.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

 

- Preferably a PhD on a safety scientific - or risk management related theme;

- Strong motivation to contribute to the education in safety science;

- Verifiable affinity with technology and ethics of the technology;

- Excellent organisational skills;

- Experience in providing safety education to students from other disciplines;

- Preferably experience in coordinating educational activities;

- Preferably in possession of  'Basic qualification education' (BKO) of comparable qualification;

- Excellent skills of the Englisch language (oral and written);

- Flexibility and willingness to work in a team.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

The function has a scope of 32 hours per week. This is a temporary appointment for two years, with an intended starting date of 1 September 2019. The salary depends on education and experience based on a maximum of scale 11 (with a maximum of € 4, 978 gross per month in the case of a full-time appointment). TU Delft also offers an attractive package of secondary employment conditions, such as a flexible working week, discounts from health insurance companies and the possibility of putting together an individual employment conditions package every year. The salary and terms of employment are based on the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
