Job description

Our laboratory studies how genetic abnormalities contribute to the development and progression of blood cancers such as acute leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. We use mouse models, human samples and CRISPR-based models to understand disease and to develop novel approaches to improve current cancer therapies.

Principal duties and responsibilities include: Perform experiments, which may be moderate to complex with increasing independence; record data and analyze results using basic statistics, maintain and perform experiments with cells in tissue culture; pre-clinical rodent work (colony management, mouse handling, injections and some surgery); prepare laboratory reagents chemicals, instruments, and maintain equipment and maintain supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.

The Technical Research Assistant will work under supervision to support PhD Students and Post-docs at the Department of Hematology. One main task will be the management of growing mouse colonies. Experience with techniques in molecular biology and cell biology is desirable.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills: experience with pre-clinical rodent work, cell based assays including maintenance of cells; PCR/RT-PCR and other biochemical techniques; preferentially also DNA cloning, transfections and infections.

Being able to present a certificate of good conduct is a condition for the appointment.

Conditions of employment

The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 4.216,- (scale 10), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
