Job description

What exactly will you do?

As a lecturer you will be carrying out teaching duties regarding Risk Analysis and Management. 

A number of responsibilities:

  • Teaching is the primary focus of this role, teaching in both lecturing and workshop settings;
  • Contributing to developing and refining the curriculum including bringing in (new) active learning methods;
  • You are also willing to take up tasks regarding the quality assurance of the program and handling administrative teaching tasks;
  • Guiding students in their development, learning skills and career planning;
  • Coaching small groups of students on their practical business related assignments, projects, papers and internships.

Requirements

Your profile

  • Candidates must have minimally a master’s degree in the social sciences, psychology, economics or a directly related area;
  • Professional experience in the field or a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in the relevant area is highly desirable;
  • Candidates should have a clear interest and demonstrable expertise (or potential) in teaching risk analysis and management studies including topics like critical asset identification, threat/hazard and vulnerability assessment, risk perception and probability assessment, risk prioritization, and counter measure development;
  • Candidates are expected to teach stand-alone courses in Security Risk Management and Safety Risk Management as well as to contribute risk analysis expertise to our minors/courses in Applied Intelligence, Terrorism and Counterterrorism, Crisis Communication and International Relations and Geopolitics;
  • Candidates with additional expertise in the fields of cyber security and industrial security are preferred;
  • Candidates should also be able to supervise thesis writing and to tutor applied science projects in safety and security management;
  • Professional or research experience in non-Western contexts will be considered an asset;
  • Competence with IT tools and fluency in both spoken and written English (at least level C1 and preferably level C2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) are essential.

What we offer

  • A salary up to € 4.661,12 gross per month (scale 11) for a full-time work week, excluding 8% holiday pay. (The employment conditions are in keeping with the Collective Labour Agreement for higher professional education.);
  • A full 13th month;
  • An appointment of 0,6 – 0,8 FTE, 24 – 32 hours in a temporary position for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension;
  • A generous leave policy of about 45 days for a full-time appointment including the compulsory free days and excluding the national holidays;

Safety and Security Management Studies (SSMS)

The Safety and Security Management Studies (SSMS) programme of The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) is a 4-year bachelor programme aimed at preparing students for professional careers in the fields of international security, urban safety and industrial safety. The SSMS programme, which is licensed and accredited by the Dutch Government, is a small but growing programme with currently over 260 students and 15 faculty members of diverse international backgrounds.
